I think they have a shelf life. If people don't show up for an appointment they'll basically give them away instead of throwing them out.

Which honestly is a great policy. Better to get it to someone that wants it and is not yet eligible than to have to toss it away

Thats how I got mine... my wife works at a doctors office and had a cancellation. She called me and asked if I can be at her office in 20 mins. They want it in anyones arm instead of in the trash.

Unfortunately some places throw them out rather than just giving them to a rando.

You can thank the CDC for that.

When it comes to a handful of leftover vaccines set to expire soon, some pharmacists and doctors might allocate on a first-come-first-serve basis -- a decision that at times has been controversial.

In December, Dr. Hasan Gokal was fired from his job as medical director of Harris County Public Health Department in Texas for giving away 10 doses of the Moderna vaccine that were going to expire. He was charged with theft by a public servant and accused of breaking county protocols by the district attorney, but the charges were later dropped.

"In the absence of having any other options, I contacted people who I thought would be eligible or would know somebody who would be eligible," Gokal said in an interview on "The View."
"He's getting the best job in baseball."

that is also how i got mine. I asked the night before and was told we have 20 spots and they are all filled for tomorrow... Tomorrow came and they called me back and said someone didnt show if you want it you can have it. I said I can be there in a half hour. They told me I have until 2am so its fine.

Has anyone had side effects? Know like 20 people that got it and only thing they say is bad arm and neck pain at times but nothing else.

currently i have really bad arm/leg and neck pain similar to if you got a tetnis shot in the arm. The only annoying thing is the chills though. So left side of body pain and chills only.

I still can't even schedule an appointment for a vaccine here in California. Guessing that'll change in 1-2 months. As of now, I'm not willing to drive an hour away or wait in some random parking lot for 4 hours to get one (and am not so sure if I could get a vaccination even if I was willing to do either of those things).

yea this sucks... I got super lucky. I called in my blood thinners the night before and asked if they are giving covid shots and the guy who knew me said they are but for tomorrow all 20 bookings are filled... He called me back next night and said if you want it we have 1 no show. I jumped on it.
