I hate it when politicians and other people use the term "non-essential business". All business are essential. The business I work for is sure essential to me; without it, I would be out of a job.

come on nasty tell us how this isnt the biggest issue of it all. Keep telling yourself we should have known etc... we and others were screwed from the start on false data man... china needs to pay period.
I'm not against the idea that china ****ed up and should pay.

However the claim that China hid the severity of spread is simply false. This is chinas reported numbers.

    https://www.worldometers.info/corona...country/china/

If you follow their numbers from January 22nd to Feb 7 or so, it tells us the severity of spread of this disease. In late January the worlds medical community knew for a fact that this disease is capable of quickly getting out of control. We also had a fairly accurate timeline. Why? Because China's reported numbers told us so. China sharing this information with the world is not up for debate, they did.

In late january when we had the first cases pop up in New York, Chinas numbers told us that we can expect an outbreak as quickly as within 2 months if we do nothing. We then proceeded to do nothing for 2 months.

We wouldnt have stopped this thing from being around, but we could have stopped any outbreak.

As a survivor and a nurse/EMT, I will tell you that this disease is the strangest one I have witnessed in my 25+ years on the job. I started as a nurse toward the end of the AIDs stuff. We treated everyone as though they were infected. This is how we handle Covid. Everyone is considered infected unless or until we are shown differently.
My case was very mild. I was sick for about a week and only off work for 2. I was off the shortest amount of time of any of the nursing staff where I work, and I am one the oldest people on staff. We have been in lockdown for over 5 weeks and our residents are getting a bit restless, although we are going to relax some of the quarantine in the facility tomorrow, as we currently have no active cases.
My county has a relatively high concentration of Covid cases, partially due to a Native American population, a casino, a meat packing plant and many long term care facilities like the one I work in. We are not among the 77 counties that our governor is "opening up", but we might be fairly soon. I expect the worst to be over by the end of the month and we can get back to some semblance of normalcy around here.
I also expect this virus to become a seasonal disease, and we will have to continue keeping up the fight to find a vaccine and a reliable cure. Only then can we get back to our "old" lives that we had just 3 short months ago.

Definitely a wierd disease. My neighbor downstairs was confirmed 6 weeks ago, his last test had him negative but he still coughing, like clearly coughing. He gonna get tested again soon, but they didnt even test his family since they had no symptoms.

They gave him an antibiotic, apparently. They're not giving him steroids, I'm not sure why, the guy seems to have clear lung damage.

Maybe someone that works in the field knows, but I wonder if they're giving covid patients with respiratory symptoms steroids, seems like it should be standard.

    *btw catman, we appreciate you

    Thanks for the mention.
As to your neighbor, I know several people who have had this cough since December. About all they can do is use their favorite cough medicine, or get a prescription from their Dr. It goes away in some patients, but not in others. As I said, it is the strangest disease I've ever run up against.

65k deaths is a huge undershot.

Deaths are higher across the board and people are not getting posthumously tested.

I feel like someone could get hit by a bus, and if that person had Corona they'd classify it as a Corona death.
Just seems to me like literally everything is being classified that way, even if they had it, were asymptomatic and died of something else. But bc they had it, that's the cause of death.
Or someone who just maybe had a symptom, but didn't test positive. Corona death.
I really doubt 65k is a huge undershot.

Oh no! You mean it should really only be 64k dead instead? This makes this just the flu then right? Everybody needs to calm down.

I think the amount of people you described is FAR less than the amount that unknowingly died from it.

    That's my guess.

    Coronavirus, US vs Canada

    https://www.vox.com/2020/5/4/2124275...-trump-trudeau

Mentions some differences in approach and differences in numbers. I think instead of spending money on fighting the virus maybe we should pay a few intelligence committees to see if canada is lying about their numbers.

    Bingo

Also, if someone is sick or hurt and their death is accelerated by covid 19- that means they died from covid 19 complications. It isn't a lie to say they did.

Lol were not lying, we shut the country down on Wednesday march 18th. The whole country, not just a province here and there lol. It also helps we have such a large area of land for like 37 million people or whatever

Also our government has been upfront from the start, our PM has had a morning conference every morning for the past 2 months letting us know what's happening.
