The Democrats have 'blown up' a **** load of national monuments over the last 3 years. Give us this mountain and the butterflies. It's only fair.

Congrats, this is the most ridiculous thing I've seen today.
Prior to 11/1/19: if you were on my ignore list, I was sticking to ignoring you thanks to great advise.
From 11/1/19 on: I will no longer be responding to comments back to people on my ignore list.

ideally I imagine it would be better to not do this while still building the wall. but one should ask what is more important, national monument or border security. protecting the border should be the better priority.

It's part of a mountain, that itself is part of a large mountain range.

The wall put up along the rio grange many many years ago was also destructive to people and to nature.

And I'm FOR a strong border, it's just that from the beginning I've been saying it's hard to do and needs to be several methods to keep people from crossing illegally.

You want proof that a fence deters travel over a point? Go look at a modern fenced in basketball court and see how many people climb over vs how many go through the gate.

I mean, I doubt people are going to play Basketball with the same desperation or urgency that they would trying to start a new life in a new country. If people were told they would get $10,000,000 if they made it to the court but they couldn't go through the gate, I'm betting a fair amount would have no problem climbing over the fence...

Sure. However, if there were no fence at all the number of people and the speed they get there would be FAR faster and a higher total overall. The point is not that any wall, fence, electronic, or human surveillance will STOP all illegal immigration. It's whether it will slow it down, and it absolutely will. The other factor is that if the actual legal entry points are as difficult as the open gate then the only people climbing the fence will be the ones not wanting to be seen getting in for some reason.

So, as I've been saying all along. A strong border and an easier mode of entry, and an easier path to citizenship.

Yes, a wall will reduce the numbers, but by how much and at what cost? I agree with your conclusions, but it seems everyone agrees with that but then immediately wants to start with the stronger border part, and those who think the other two aspects are just as important are dubious that we will ever get around to those parts.

As bad as mine was, it's still better than his. Wanting to go to an entirely new country to start a new life is more comparable to wanting $10 million than it is to wanting to play pickup basketball on a Wednesday night...
