    US economic growth slowing down

    https://markets.businessinsider.com/...0-1-1028859830

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/30/b...p-numbers.html

Long story short, GDP grew 2.1% in 4th quarter of 2019 and 2.3% for 2019 overall. That's the lowest growth of the Trump Presidency and his first 3 years in office has seen slower growth than Obama's last three years. Consumer spending down significantly in the last quarter and business spending decreased. Are we ready to say the tax cuts didn't help?

Truth is that Trump, like all republicans and even many democrats, is nothing more than a puppet for the rich doing their bidding and signing their laws. It doesn't hurt that he himself is rich but the guy who promised to drain the swamp has done anything but. The wealthy get to be more wealthy, and that's it.

If he wins re election his administration and the republicans in Congress WILL MAKE A HARD PUSH to cut Social Security, Medicare, and many other government programs under the guise that we cannot afford it. With the government getting less tax revenue after the tax cut and defense spending at $716 billion, half of which is government contracts, going after programs to help the poor is their solution. Trump is already saying he is going to look at cutting Social Security and Medicare, and after the election he's going to be a lot more vocal about it. We can't let them win.

How in the hell could someone not see this coming? It is the typical rep. playbook call, cut taxes to the rich and then cut aid to the poor. They call it shrinking the government. They have been doing this for the last forty years. They cut aid to college student pushing them more into back-breaking loans. Cut education and after school activities in poor areas then complain about black youths as super predators and Blacks don't have American values, while ignoring the plight of poor whites as well. Cut mental hospital funding to the point we have mentally ill people in the street causing harm to themselves and others. Now, they want to cut aid to the elderly and needy. Who the f are these people, who claim to have the best interest of the American people in their hearts?

If this country is stupid enough to vote these guys or moderate dem into power, we might as well slash our own throats. It would be quicker.

The short term boost in numbers came at an expense as well, the economy is being propped up by adding to the deficit despite having taken a good economy (when you would normally lower as Obama did when economy was more recovered later in his terms).

I think all along most Americans were aware that the tax cuts were made on some false promises and were aimed at the wealthy/corporations more than some big boon for lower/middle class.

It isn't like Trump has been drastically bad for the economy or anything despite some of this information already provided or that I am adding. I just think the narrative him and his base push is often far from reality. We have a good economy being propped up right now in a way that hurts the future to boost current numbers/in unsustainable way.

The economy is never simple enough to be able to point at one factor and decide an overall result positive or negative from that one factor.

Even though economic growth is slowing, is the inverted yield curve from several months ago considered a false alarm when it comes to a recession?
