Dusty is a good guy. He deserves another shot at the top. Is he a little over the hill now though, that's the question. Guessing Astros fans won't be impressed....

This is far worse than any other punishment the Astros could’ve hoped for.

If Trump can become president with no political background then I don't understand why I need a resumé

Dusty won't hurt them. He has a pretty full tool-box and should do all right there.

They had no choice but to choose someone who has experience at managing and who has no track record of cheating.

In what way? In what way is he worse than any other candidate? Let's be honest, there wasn't a slam dunk candidate. This isn't a situation like the Red Sox in 2017 where they had an outstanding candidate like Cora lined up. They were pretty much forced to choose between not all that many options. Dusty is un-offensive, a likeable character and can help gain some credibility for the Astros in the short term. He isn't the answer going forward long term, but in the short term its a good hire so long as they develop a candidate they want long term.

    Right?

He's so out of touch at this point.

To go from AJ Hinch to Dusty Baker is going to be a total flip.

I know he's an awesome guy, and people love to play for him. And he was probably a safe move here. But he is about as anti-analytics as one could be, and he is going to a totally analytical driven organization.

AJ Hinch didn't IBB one batter last year. And only 4 the year before. He has had his position players lay down a grand total of 11 sacrifice bunts over the last 2 years.

Dusty Baker IBB 39 guys in 2017, and 43 in 2016, and had 24 sac bunts with position players in those 2 years. That is just a sign of things to come when it comes to the differences in these two.

Baker's lifetime 2.4% rate of sac bunts with his position players throughout his 22 year career is higher than Rick Renteria's 2.1% was in 2019, which was the highest in the league (that's out of chances to bunt, fouls and missed bunts don't count)

Dusty isn't going to like all those Astros hitters that take walks and clog up the bases.

This man has described guys who take walks as "base cloggers."

    He himself is a toolbox.
