Giants to hire Joe Judge as new HC

The New York Giants are finalizing a deal to make New England Patriots wide receivers coach Joe Judge their next head coach, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

The deal was in the works as of Monday night, sources told Schefter, which is another reason Matt Rhule took the head coaching job with the Carolina Panthers.

Judge would replace Pat Shurmur, who was fired by the Giants last week after two seasons.

The 39-year-old Judge was the youngest of the candidates being mentioned for the Giants' vacancy and has been mentored by Alabama coach Nick Saban and Patriots coach Bill Belichick. He is considered a no-nonsense guy who isn't afraid to ruffle feathers with players if necessary.

The Giants are an NFL-worst 12-36 since the start of the 2017 season.

But, but, but Patriots, BB, Saban!!!

When are people gonna learn that just because you saw Bill Belichek at a coffee shop once doesnít make you a good coach!?!? Isnít Vrabel the only guy from BB coaching tree that has had even an ounce of success without Brady/BB leading the way?

This feels like the Giants trying to be the smartest people in the room instead of hiring an actual head coach.

Odd hire. If they wanted a Pats coach, why not go with Josh McDaniels?

Though I did read somewhere that John Harbaugh was hired from being a special teams coach so maybe it'll work out. Just seems like an odd choice given who is available to them.

Well at least we can count on the Giants to be irrelevant for a few more years.

He's been with the Pats for 8 years doing special teams (and you know how BB likes special teams). And before that he did special teams for Bama for 2 years as national champions. So 2 national champs and 3 SB rings. That's decent experience compared to Matt Rhule's barely over 0.500 college record and assistant OL coach 8 years ago.

Judge was also going to go to the Colts with McDaniels as OC before McDaniels backed out.

Probably because McDaniels wanted full control and wasnít going to come here. The greatest coach of all time started out as a ST coach. That doesnít mean anything I just found it funny that you mentioned harbugh when he isnít the most famous ST coach lol
