If i was the bears..... i would take a flier on Darron Lee who is only 25. But honestly i think people are over reacting on edge. if you really think clay at this point is better than Gipson or Mingo Idk how to argue with you. gotta rememember the bears actually signed Mingo kinda early.... they wanted him.

It's a pretty easy argument to make. Clay is coming off an 8 sack season and has had a pretty great career in general, versus Mingo who has sucked and done nothing his entire career and a 5th round draft pick who has absolutely no track history. On the contrary, I don't understand the argument that Clay isn't better, or at least much safer/dependable than either of the other two options. Albeit, there's more to production than sacks, and he's not my first choice either, but I'd still feel much better about our linebacker room with Clay in it.

As for signing Mingo early, I don't know that it's a huge indicator that they really wanted him badly. He was willing to sign for pennies on the dollar early, the Bears were willing to give him pennies on the dollar early probably mostly because they had no edge rusher depth at all on the roster.

I would take Clay as a nice depth piece, since he can play multiple positions. Would make the Mingo signing pointless though, since he may be the 5th guy off the bench.

Still really hoping for RB depth.

Mingo is just a guy. He's not a legitimate pass rusher at all and has bounced around to 4 different teams in the last 4 seasons. His cap hit is $887K... dude's not even a lock to make the roster.

Not sure why he should block anyone or keep you from adding EDGE depth.

Mingo was brought in to be Floyd on a way cheaper contract . Heíll have a place especially when they donít want to put Mack in so many
Coverage roles and can put him on the line with Hicks

Basically, yeah. A lesser version of Floyd. That type of player has value, but it's also not irreplaceable either, and shouldn't keep you from adding another edge rusher.

His only chance to be a starting caliber qb imo is if he can be a long term backup for a single team. Maybe around 30,31 it'll slow down for him.

I dont even think he can stick as a backup a la Chase Daniel.

it just makes no sense and im a mitch hopeful. Worst case he plays well and might make 30 mil next year instead if 26 (cant make more than Tannahill IMO)

Worst case..... you paying 26 mil for a backup QB.
