As much as I love the rule, is it really doing what it's intended to do? My opinion is that it isn't anymore and really only one candidate was hired because of the rule (ironically it was the team owned by the guy the rule is named after).

My $0.02 is they should do away with the rule and put in a program to help minorities from the league gain coaching skills and interview skills that could make them attractive candidate in the future when the opportunity is right.

They could easily just interview Richard for that

Maybe they want to suggest him as DC to whoever the new head coach is.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

Most of the black coaches argue if not for this rule they would have never had the opportunity to get in front of senior management and build their skills. I disagree with you on this.

Why are we put out if the league agrees among themselves (owners) to hold themselves to a standard of interviewing at least one black candidate for each head coaching job. Mike Tomlin got his opportunity because he was so impressive in one of his early "Rooney Rules" interviews. Without that who knows how long he toils in anonymity before getting a chance. All that aside, what do we care if they agree they should have and keep the Rooney rule? Are we being collectively put out by this? Seems like a weird thing to want to get rid.

The idea of a minority candidate getting a token interview seems stupid and pointless but at the end of the day nothing bad can happen from it so I donít see any issue.

I do think itís kind of ďunfairĒ in the sense that I think minority coordinators do sort of get a leg up in the sense that even if they get a token interview just to check the box itís still exposure and experience. But I also recognize the long history that the rule was put in pace to combat so you kind of just accept it.
