    Mets sign Wacha

    Joel Sherman

    @Joelsherman1
#Mets are working hard to finalize a 1-yr contract with Michael Wacha.

He's cheaper than Porcello. That should get the pro Wilponzini's excited.

    Shekels..save the shekels.

Ok move i guess. Pitching depth that can slide into bullpen if needed. But he doesnít replace Wheeler thatís for damn sure

    At least Brodie is predictable.

Iíd rather Wacha on 1 year than multiple years for Porcello. Solid signing

Before all the negativity begins here is the positives of this one for me:

    - Long track record of being a good pitcher
    - 1 year deal so he will be playing for his likely last big contract
    - Only has one negative WAR season, average of slightly over 1 WAR per season, fine for a #5
    - Can possibly be a swing man and be a BP option at times

As a replacement for Vargas I am fine with the signing, it's "good" not great. Stroman replaces Wheeler.

    DeGrom
    Noah
    Stroman
    Matz
    Wacha

Rotation is set, add a veteran on a minor league pact for depth.

Now let's get the BP shored up and check in on Marte.

It appears that Porcello indeed wanted multiple years. Anyway they still need at least 2 decent arms in that bullpen

    He's a CAA client.
He is signing players he has a personal relationship with.

Fastball spin in the 9th percentile though. Curve in the 6th. STL left him off the postseason roster. Mets putting some faith in Jeremy Hefner right away.

    Hefner is the new Jacket.

I donít see a lot of negativity. I think most feel itís an ok move. If they actually add a couple decent arms to the bullpen it becomes better I think. If Diaz can get his head screwed on straight it becomes a lot better as far as the whole pitching situation. Will those things happen? Hopefully but jury is still out

Why does that matter? The signing fits what we need, and I would rather have him than most of the other options we were looking at. Just because they have a relationship doesn't mean it has to be a bad signing, they aren't mutually exclusive. If you told me why you didn't like the signing based on the on field play then I would hear you out.
