Well yeah, I think we all would.

$22M per year for Bumgarner is a guaranteed overpay and a bad contract.

If you go more than 4 years for Bumgarner, you can kiss the next 5 years of this organizations hopes goodbye.

Sorry I missed one part, they want to augment their pitching somewhere. So reliever or starter implied.

How about JA Happ for Brett Cecil and John Nogowski?

Saves the Yankees $10M in 2020, we add on $10M, and get a rebound player in Happ who can be a starter or a reliever based on Martinez, and gives us a lefty.

Vesting option for 2021 is the poison pill if he becomes a full time starter, but if we ended up using him like that, we'd probably want to pay him another $17M next year.

He is insurance for Martinez. Puts Yankees $9M below luxury tax, which will help toward them trying to sign Cole.

Simple move for us, and if Happ sucks, whatever, but I think he's a likely 8.0 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 1.0 HR/9 in our ballpark, and helps with the versatility of bullpen or a starter depending what else happens, and he's a lefty.
