I think it would be a good signing. He's excellent on defense and he's a Latino. I think he could be a huge help to Sanchez. Kind of like a Pena replacement(although Pena was Gary's coach)

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

Treinen would have been nice but when you sign Cole for 9 years, $324M there are going to be sacrifices. $10M reclamation projects in the pen when you already have good depth in the pen is an example of a budget cut you make. Hopefully we get another reliever but itís either going to be for less than $10M or someone with a little more certainty if we are spending more. Just canít afford the bust in boom or bust at that amount.

I donít like it either but it may have been the deal breaker for Stocking.

He's a backup catcher. So his primary goal is defense and he provides that. So, I don't see the issue there, at all.

In fact, he could in turn be very important in helping dirty behind the dish.

As long as you stay away from Wade.

I'm fine w Maldonado even if he is Cole's personal catcher. If it helps, why not?

Jose Molina was AJ Burnett's personal catcher iirc. No big deal.

Im fine signing Coles catcher, whatever make him comfortable and he could mentor Gary.

That said unless they feel like Maldonado and Higgy could handle starting 60 plus games, we'll still need to find a backup who can handle catching 2 times a week and not be a zero at the plate.

It sucks but the truth is Gary should only C between 80-100 games. He is injury prone back there and the difference in a healthy Garys bat like we say the majority of the first half last yr is worlds better than him playing less than a 100%
As we say from July on.. If they are going to get the best they can from Gary they need a backup that can catch 50 plus games.
