Reports are that the Cole meeting was ‘nice’ and the Yanks are trying to convince him to want to play in NY but he prefers LA. No money discussed.

    Bye Felicia.

Pray that Sevy can go toe to toe with Cole in the next 5 years and just load up with the bullpen.

That’s worked fantastically the last three years.

you be surprised how a player will change his mind where he wants to play depending on how much money you give them..

Pass. Pitchers break way too easily to invest that kind of money into them.

    TMML.

I didn't even think of that. But it's true

Yeah. They'll get a couple mid tier guys and say it was part of the plan all along.

I don’t WANT Romine but I had us trading for 2 premium players in Lindor and Rizzo. In order to facilitate that prospect wise I think we’d have to deal off something. That’s where Sanchez came in. I prefer that overall combination.

Yanks had “very nice” introductory meeting with Gerrit Cole yesterday. No $ specifically discussed. They are selling him on being a Yankee and winning. Also key: “the dollars will be there.” The Yankees believe he’d thrive in NY but also believe he may prefer LA.

#Yankees felt the meeting with Cole went well. No money discussed, but understood that the NYY would not have flown across country if they weren’t ready to go to the top of the market.

The pitch is a lot like the one they gave CC Sabathia 11 years ago. He was also considered a west coast guy, but the largest contract ever for a pitcher played a little part in changing his mind. https://twitter.com/jonheyman/status...09048210411520

Lets not get too crazy. At $33-35M for 7 yrs. puts the bottom at $231M, making it the most lucrative deal ever given to a starting pitcher.

Just think not too long ago Frazier and Andujar might have sealed the deal!

Verlanders deal was essentially an extension NOT part of original deal. His current contract originally had a vesting option for 2020, but the two sides voided the option after the trade. Houston agreed to void the $22M vesting club option for 2020. Now $33M for next two years.
