Rockets GM Morey's job at risk over Hong Kong tweets?

In the wake of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) suspending its relationship with the Houston Rockets over a tweet that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey sent out, there’s a chance that Morey’s job could be in danger over the incident, The Ringer’s John Gonzalez reports.

As Gonzalez reports, “Rockets ownership has ‘absolutely discussed’ whether Morey should be removed as general manager in an attempt to mitigate the fallout, appease the Chinese government and business interests, and re-establish ties.”

Of course, discussions and actual action are two completely different things. As such, The Athletic’s Sam Amick tweeted out a report that refutes Gonzalez’s story and says Morey’s job isn’t at risk.

Twitter is cancer, those are my thoughts.

    PSD Grammar Lesson #1:

    a) their - stands for "belonging to them"
    b) there - means "over there" as in location
    c) they're - short for "they are"

Business/$$$. Nothing about this is new/shocking, though I was a bit alarmed to read Harden stick his neck out like that. Tilman Fertita? Nah. Right or wrong (clearly wrong), $$ talks.

Morey is so incredibly opinionated and comes off as obnoxious even at times. Looks like he finally put his foot in his mouth. Might be time to get off Twitter ..

I think it’s a platform for idiots to expose themselves. A PSD for the world if you will.

Haha pretty sure Chuck said something to that effect before on TV. Paraphrasing here....."Twitter is for people who think their opinions are important".

It's never time to stop calling out an evil Communist dictatorship like China, whether that's on Twitter or any other platform. Morey's neither an idiot, obnoxious nor putting his foot in his mouth by doing so.

Exactly man, no idea what that guy is getting at?

Also, the NBA is a joke. They took the All-Star game from NC over the bathroom issue but suck China's dick. Get out of here with that nonsense. They only care about money and that's it. Silver ****ed up BADLY on this one.

It's not the Rockets or the NBA as far as I've read, it's Fertita who's groveling. Morey represents the team and the owner took issue with what he said, mostly having to do with money. If Morey had said something about Cuba no one would care.

    The NBA's official statement:
We recognize that the views expressed by Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey have offended so many of our friends and fans in China, which is regrettable. While Daryl has made it clear that his tweet does not represent the Rockets or the NBA, the values of the league support individuals’ educating themselves and sharing their views on matters important to them. We have great respect for the history and culture of China and hope that sports and the NBA can be used as a unifying force to bridge cultural divides and bring people together.
Statement by Rick Welts, President of the Warriors:
“It’s not going to happen. It’s not what the NBA is about. It’s not what our leadership is about,” said Welts, in response to a question about whether the league would specifically bar people from discussing the Hong Kong protests.

“I think it’s one of the things that’s distinguished in the NBA, in terms of the encouragement of everyone to have a voice,” Welts said on “Squawk on the Street.”
I see a lot of people parroting people like Ted Cruz, who are bashing the league when the league is in fact standing behind Morey.

The question is more if the league would step in if Morey said something more and he got fired.

Those fake *** SJW's only care when its an issue that the media spreads here. When it comes to other countries' regimes who abuse, slaughter, and imprison (like the Muslim Uyghur concentration camp and Tibetan murder, imprisonment and brainwashing program) then they turn the blind eye for the extra cash. Nothing but blood money.

At least Matt Stone and Trey Parker are respectable.
