I dont even think I would pay him $7 mil for 1 year if he was a FA.

I mean the contract is signed so it is what it is but at the same time he could still be the difference between whether we can get another good reliever or not.

Grichuk came in pretty handy last year while Springer was out, and managed to drive in over 80 runs again while playing solid D. I like him as protection for Springer and his injury filled career.

Seiya Suzuki is very interesting. The guy hit like Hall of famer the last 5 years in Japan....and capped that off by a 38 HR season before deciding to make the move to the bigs. His worst OPS in a season there since 2016 was .936.

The last few hitters not named Ohtani haven't done much coming over from Japan, and even he took a few years before he played like the MVP Anaheim thought they were getting.

What would you pay for Seiya?

MLBTR has him at 5 years $55 mil or something like that. I would pass at that price.

    If it's a 3 year $30 mil I may do it.

I think I would gamble on term.

    Sign Rodon
Trade Pearson, Kirk, Groshans for Ramirez?

    Berrios
    Manoah
    Gausman
    Ryu
    Rodon

    C: Janson/McGuire/Moreno
    1B: Vladdy
    2B: Biggio/Espinal
    3b: Ramirez
    SS: Bichette
    CF: Springer/Grichuk
    RF: Teoscar
    LF: Gurriel
    DH: Springer/Whomever needs a break.

BP: Garcia, Cimber, Mayza, Romano, Richards, Stripling, Merryweather, (other FA signing).
I mentioned it before but the fact that Rodon didn't get a qualifying offer is a massive red flag.

You sure about that? I’m reading he had a vesting option for 2022.

Same. Japan has produced some high quality hitters over the years. This guys numbers appear to be better than the likes of Tsutsugo and Fukudome too.

NYM have to be done, right? Their payroll commitments for 2022 are, as of now, north of 260 million.

And they’ll still miss the playoffs.
They’re going to be the dumb dodgers.

I agree. But who's dumber? Texas or NYM?

My bad. They had an option and picked it up for 16m

It was a vesting option. He had to make 50 something appearances last year then it kicked in.

Don't disagree at all. My assumption is that effects the price and term. Depending on the cost, a risky play could have upside with Berrios, Ryu, Manoah and Gausman all in place. Its an upside play. If he grabs 5 years, 90 million or something it probably doesn't fit long-term budget. But 3 years, 60 million? There is some risk/reward there. Obviously the medical staff would need to weigh in heavily.
