Steve Phillips said something interesting this AM on the radio. He was talking about how the Moustakas signing really shuffles the 3B market, not because of the years/$$, but because it is a 3B option that signed as a 2B. So that means no teams in the market for a 3B filled that hole, but one of the top AFA 3B is off the market. That could really change some things.

Thinking ahead of trade candidates, Bryant becomes more attractive now. Does Kyle Seager start interesting teams? As a FA, does a SS like Didi Gregorious fall into the 3B market?

I think this Moose signing could send some bigger ripples than some people initially thought.

That was my immediate reaction. Iím never shocked when somebody gets more than expected. But when you take that option off the table and still have the same amount of teams seeking 3b, it becomes more difficult for me to see us getting what we need.

This made the market slimmer and will most likely raise the bar for JD. This makes us resigning him less likely.

I like Wheeler and think he's a quality starter for whoever gets him but it blows my mind that he's about to get $20 to $25 million per season. It is being suggested that he's going to get at least 4 years and more than $100 million.

If the Dodgers sign Rendon Justin Turner could be available. He is on the last year of his contract and makes 20 million this year. If the Dodgers ate 5 mil we could make a trade and it may not take much. Infact we maybe able to get Joc as well.

18 million for Hamels? Boy, either payroll is really going up this year, or they replace Donaldson by making a trade.

I like this deal. I was hoping we could sign Hamels. Fits what AA has been wanting by going with expensive, short deals. He's made at least 24 starts every year since he turned 30 and still averaged 9.1 K/9. He's no longer an ace but should be an improvement over Teheran at the very least. I've been saying this for a while but I think his presence is going to be huge for our young starters. I've seen some compare Fried to Hamels so hopefully Fried can learn a few things from Hamels and take another step forward next year. Same with Newk. I think we should be able to resign Donaldson too.

Bowman pointed out that Hamels had a 2.98 ERA during his first 17 starts. He strained his oblique near the end of June and posted a 5.79 ERA during his final 10 starts after returning from injury.

It's been suggested by at least one beat writer that the Hamels signing could very likely have been a sign that the Braves couldn't afford to sign both Bumgarner & Donaldson. So, the Braves signed Hamels instead to try to ensure that they have enough money to make a serious run at keeping Donaldson.

Rosenthal says we aren't out on MadBum but I am going to assume we're done spending big on pitching. Soroka, Fried, Hamels, and Folty will be the top 4. AA said Newk will be stretched out again and compete for a rotation spot in spring training. Still have Kyle Wright, Bryse Wilson, and Touki in AAA. Ian Anderson will likely be ready at some point. I guess we stand pat with our pitching.

Wow. I wish I had posted my predictions for our offseason. I had ATL signing Hamels...haha.

Deals like this make me believe AA plans on keeping most of his young arms moving forward. This buys ATL a year to get youngsters ready. That may also mean no big trade, but I still think Bryant could be a possible trade target. Great 3B option that will come cheaper than Rendon/JD for the next two years.
