Offense is a joke...has been all year......hard to believe their still in 1st place. And now the pen all of sudden is train wreck. Another September swoon coming for the 3rd straight year?

The offense has been brutal. 24th in homeruns and 21st in runs scored. Which all the good teams for years now just score by the h.r. most of the time. The starting pitching is doing good. The pen has been shakey lately. The offense is holding this team back big time.

Yeah, we are 4th to last in home runs.

We do manufacture runs, but that's not enough to keep up with this league that is built for the more efficient model of home runs. Our power hitters aren't really hitting a lot of them compared to the rest of the league.

Exactly. Don't know how they really improve this going into next year? I'm too lazy to look up old #'s of the hrs hit by like the 04 & 05 teams. But, I bet they were near the top of mlb in that department. Seemed like when the cards were really good they had like 1 or 2 pretty good pitchers, 1 good closer, and a lethal lineup. That's the way to win nowadays.

The successful Cardinals teams of the past were excellent in RISP and they were diverse in how they manufactured their runs. They got the HRs but were not dependent upon that. Need those timely xbhs and singles to drive men in when we have scoring chances.

If the Cardinals are going to make the playoffs, they need to improve with RISP. Drive runners in anyway way you can. Sometimes you see Ozuna and DeJong trying to hit the HR when a ball up the middle or a double down the line or in the gap will suffice.
