Since Hurney will take on the general manager title, Mayhew's departure means the 49ers won't be rewarded with a compensatory third-round draft pick. The expanded Rooney Rule requires minority candidates to be hired to head coach and general manager spots to receive those additional draft picks.

If we get Dalton it's closed. No reason to bring in Dalton. Might as well keep Jimmy at that point.

Dalton is just as good as JG and will cost half.

Sounds like well be getting a 3rd for Mayhew after all. Looks like the initial reports about Hurney becoming the GM
    were inaccurate.

I know these are essentially mid-rounders, but we have a lot of picks and the Texans have limited negotiation power if Watson is giving an ultimatum.

Id create a hefty package to land Watson and see if we can add a 3rd team to take JG with that return (hopefully a late 1st/early 2nd) going back to Houston.

It might take some creativity, but we certainly have enough assets to make it happen.

Im also not opposed to a more tame strategy for the QB role,, but Watson can keep us competitive for a long time.

Getting that 3rd round pick might make my mind change on getting Watson.

Honestly, I think we have everything we need to keep our window open for a few more years if we have a QB of that caliber helming it. I know rap doesnt agree, but I do think that some savvy draft strategy could do the trick and, hopefully, we can get some decent team-friendly deals done as well.

Dalton is not as good as Jimmy. Let's stop with the hyperbole. Especially since he would have to learn what a lot of people say is a tough playbook.

I mean JG is hurt more than he plays...so having a Qb who is on the field is better than JG right now. I won't say Dalton isn't as good as JG, but if JG is better, he's not much better, let alone 13 million more better. I'll take what we can retain by getting a cheaper option at Qb and what we can get back for JG in a trade, over keeping JG and losing our free agents

Jimmy gets hurt too much to rely on him. He makes poor decisions also. Shanny doesn't like him either. We need a new Qb in here. This draft capital is awesome and we could actually trade up for Wilson, or hell we could trade for Stafford. Both better options than Jimmy.
