I do agree with you but for the sake of the Devil's Advocate...

If we could re-sign leonard, Adams, Maye and any other important pieces, trade a second round pick for Clowney and franchise him next year, could he put us over the top next year?
Would we find a better guy with a second round pick?
Williams, Williams, Anderson on the DL with Clowney as an OLB opposite Jenkins? That could be really formidable and get to the QB.

I'd trade a 3rd for him. And the Mets have 15 million in cap space.

    This is my thought.
Sure it could push us into the playoffs, but I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’d rather build a team built for multiple playoff runs with legitimate chances to win a SB

    Very formidable
Depends on if a “deal” is understood and is not ridiculous, Clowney is not a $20M+ player

Peter Schrager posed a trade for Clowney with the Jets giving up Powell & Shell.

Absolutely not, he's not even close to that. He would probably be around the 10th highest paid player on the team, at best. That's why it won't happen.

As I said, i was just being Devil's advocate. I'm not for the move but if done perfectly, it would be quite impressive.

What do you think is a fair contract for him?
I’d be comfortable under $15M a year, but I think at a minimum $16M to $18M is likely what he’s “worth”

Pretty interesting, I do like Shell though

I wouldn't go above anything that would prohibit use from resigning core guys. I also take into account the fact he had micro fracture surgery. If it was a two year deal? I'd go 17. Anything longer, with any sort of guarantee, I don't go more than 13-14. (I know the latter won't get it done)

He might not be too bad in press, but once the WR breaks loose, I can see him struggling a little

Improving the pass rush helps the secondary.
