New York rivalries and LA rivalries

In the city of New York you have the Yankees and Mets but really which team do you New Yorkers get behind? In the city of LA you have the Dodgers and Angels but really which team do y'all get behind? I want first hand accounts for how these rivalries are especially if you live in New York or LA

The Angels don't play in LA, they play 30 miles away in Anaheim (hence their silly old name of The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, or The The Angels Angels of Anaheim if you translate the Spanish) so I don't think they fight too much over fans. A better California rivalry is the Giants and A's who play right across the San Francisco bay from each other but that one comes down to where you're from mostly.

Yeah I know that but they seemed to have changed their name to Los Angeles Angels even though they play in Anaheim they still count as being an LA team don't they not? I just would have thought that there would be a rivalry there. Giants and A's makes sense but how do the Padres factor in?

Padres are the annoying if not rather inconsequential little brother. The real rivalry is Giants and Dodgers.

Yes, I am aware of that. As is any knowledgeable fan of these squads.

There are no New York rivalries. The Yankees have more WS titles in the last 25 years than the Mets do in their 58 years of existence. That's why there a **** ton more Yankee fans than Met fans in the NY metro area.

Every time I walk into Citi Field with my Arod jersey on there is always a dude in a Judge jersey there to fist bump me....in each line.

No NYM hats in Right Field at Yankee Stadium though.
We’re pointing out that these statistics breed false narratives, and we value the truth. This isn’t about replacing old numbers with new numbers, or attempting to dissuade anyone from enjoying the aesthetics of the game. It is simply about telling the average fan about the reality of what actually happened on the field. The “Holy Trinity” of baseball statistics fail at this most basic task, and so they are not worth deifying any longer. - Dave Cameron

The Angels have always used LA television and LA radio stations, so they're technically an LA team.

The Yankees have had so much success that they own more fans I don’t think any cross town rival’s fans could hate the other team as much as us Met fans hate the Yankees though

Easy to root for a team who is a perennial winner. It doesn't take any effort. Sure, there are more hardcore fans like yourself and people who post here but being a Yankee fan is as much a trend as it is anything else.

Because the yanks win a lot their will always be a higher amount of fans specially younger ones.

But when the Mets do win you see that their fan base is pretty large as well.

I’ll give this to the Yankees, they have a lot hotter women as fans, go to a Yankee game and a lot of hot chicks, go to see the Mets and oof, the pickings are slim.

There was a brief time (roughly 1985-1990) where the Mets were the bigger sell in NY.

Yeah, this was a Mets town and it became mostly Yankees after their 4 WS victories in the late 90’s.

You take a lot of bitters in your old fashioned, don't you?
