If we roll with Studham as the backup, Hoyer will find work quickly. He's had a good camp/preseason. Some team will probably grab him as their backup.

3-0 in the preseason. Hopefully Daniel Jones doesn't play next week. I'd like to go undefeated in the preseason.

Yeah King probably out for the year. I want Hoyer out. If TB goes down in week 14, Hoyer isn't getting them any further than the kid - and neither is going to win it. Use the slot to save a guy, remember when Watson comes back we have to nail someone else.

D looks superb. O is mistake free enough with enough running game to keep pressure off of TB. Looks like another 12 or 13 win season. KC seems to stand as the toughest competitor to get to the SB.

    D. Wise
    E. Roberts
    B. Hoyer
    D. Dawson

All 4 look like trade candidates to me. I could definitely see us moving some/all of them and trying to use picks to address needs at TE and on the OL.

OL depth now that Andrews is out is my big concern. We’re weak at TE but of the receivers and backs are healthy I don’t think just having a blocker there will kill us. But if the OL has issues that can be a big problem.

Roster looks exceptionally strong everywhere else IMO.

Even though it's preseason that was a pathetic second half. Stidham looked like **** and the rest of the team followed suit. Let's hope the 1st half is what the team will look like after Brady

Gonna do my 53 man roster projection but a little differently. Instead of listing who makes it I'm going to list all the guys I want to keep and then list the cuts at the end. Because you can't just think of it position by position IMO. You gotta consider if you have enough STs bodies and all that.

So here's a list of all the players I would like to keep:

Suspension/PUP/IR (these guys don't count yet) - Meredith, Watson, Kendricks, Cajuste, King
QB (3) - Brady, Hoyer, Stidham
RB (5) - Michel, White, Burkead, Bolden, Harris
    FB (1) - Develin
WR (7) - Gordon, Thomas, Edelman, Dorsett, Harry, Meyers, Olszewski
    TE (2) - Izzo, LaCosse
OL (10) - Wynn, Thuney, Karras, Mason, Cannon, Andrews, Eluemunor, Cunningham, Froholdt, Ferentz
DL (6) - Bennett, Guy, Shelton, Butler, Wise, Cowart
LB/EDGE (10) - Hightower, Van Noy, Collins, Bentley, Simon, Winovich, Rivers, Roberts, Calhoun, Munson
CB (6) - Gilmore, Jackson, McCourty, Williams, Crossen, Dawson
S (5) - McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Brooks, Melifonwu
ST (5) - Gostowski, Cardona, Bailey, Slater, Ebner

That's a total of 60 players. So 7 need to go.

I'll start with my decision to include David Andrews in the OL group. The idea here was to put him on IR to return later in the year but to do that he needs to be on the initial roster. Blood clots seem serious so not sure it's a realistic possibility. For now I'm going to just name him as the first cut via getting placed on IR with no possibility to return but I wanted to at least consider the chance he could come back.

My second cut is a bit of a surprise to some maybe, but I see Elandon Roberts as surplus. I don't see much opportunity for him to play this year with his passing game deficiencies and our depth chart. We have 4 guys that can play his inside LB role better than him in Hightower, Van Noy, Collins and Bentley. And I know some of them will log time on the edge, but with that group there also bolstered by Bennett, Wise, Simon and Winovich, all of whom I like as players over Roberts. Roberts is also in the last year of his rookie deal so there isn't multi-year consideration to keep him. He isn't a special teams ace so I'd rather get more of a specialist if we're going that route. Not that he's the worst player we'll cut, but to me he's one of the easier guys to cut when you look at total roster consideration. I think we can get something back for him in a trade though.

Third cut for me is Melifonwu. I liked him as a developmental player but there just isn't the room. He's supposedly getting outplayed by Brooks as a reserve safety anyway and he's not as strong a STer. Some talent needs to be cut unfortunately and he's another guy who jumps out as one.

Fourth cut for me needs to come back to the QB position. In an ideal world you could keep Hoyer but there's just too much talent across the roster. Something has to give. Stidham to me has shown enough that he could start a game or two. Any longer than that and we're probably screwed but honestly that's probably the case with Hoyer too. I do think we could get something for Hoyer in a trade. Not much, but something.

My fifth cut comes at the CB spot. One of Crossen or Dawson is surplus. Ideally you could keep both via practice squad or IR but it's just a numbers game. The depth chart is loaded there. One of them will be cut and probably scooped up by another team. Again, I think you could get something via trade for these guys.

My sixth and seventh cuts come at the LB/EDGE spot. Both Rivers and Calhoun are surplus on the edge. I'd love to keep both under their multi-year rookie deals but I just couldn't find the room. They're buried on the depth chart and don't play special teams. It seems a popular trend to keep one of them over Wise (who I have in the DL group but functionally he's an edge like these guys). I don't see that because Wise has legit NFL pass rush production on tape. I'd hate to lose that for a guy who can maybe bring that. Both Rivers and Calhoun are hurt however so maybe instead of cutting them you could just keep one or both around for next year. I would not use a roster spot so they could return though. If they go to IR it's just an out for year thing.

So that gets me down to my final 53. I will address the David Andrews situation though. I have him getting put on IR as part of cut down so not eligible to return. IF they think he can come back then you have to sneak him on the roster. Calvin Munson would be my temporary cut to do so. He'll just be a STs LB so worse case scenario is he gets claimed - just sign another STs ace.

Beyond that, the three positions I wanted to highlight are OL, WR and TE.

After putting Andrews on IR either as part of or after cut downs, I still have 9 OL which seems heavy. The 5 starters are locked in stone so it was a matter of how many backups. Having just gave up draft capital for Eluemunor and Cunningham, I viewed them as locks. The picks we gave up indicate that 1) we like them to at least some degree and 2) they wouldn't get through waivers. Froholdt due to draft status I also felt was a lock. Ferentz I didn't want to keep but we need a backup center and none of those other reserves fill the bill. My hands were tied. Froholdt was hurt yesterday so if he could be put on IR and red shirted a year that wouldn't be the worst thing. That would open up a roster spot elsewhere.

At WR I also kept 7 actual WRs (not including Slater). The extra guy compared to most is Olszewski. This was a STs consideration for me in the punt return game. Thomas is older and coming back from injury. Edelman is older and tends to be bruised up a lot. Gordon could be suspended again any minute. Meyers shined in camp overall but not with Brady. Harry is a rookie that's battled injuries in camp. Dorsett is just a "meh" player. We have a full depth chart with a high ceiling at WR but it's a low floor as well IMO. Not difficult to imagine it going great for us here but it could go poorly as well. So my idea behind keeping Olszewski for punt returns was that it mitigates the risk of Edelman getting hurt there which helps provide some insurance. IF the team is confident in DT's health and the ability of both Harry/Meyers to contribute then I think that actually could open up the door for Dorsett as a surprise cut but I don't see it.

The last spot I wanted to highlight was TE. On the surface, 2 seems light. But I could even see us going with 1 if the roster crunch is tight at other spots. Neither Izzo or LaCosse is anything special. I see Kendricks getting cut after his 1 game suspension barring injuries to one or both of Izzo or LaCosse. But once Watson comes back, I think he'd take one of these spots. I don't think we'll keep 3 TEs because we can get by with 2 and the players at other spots are just better.

So just to high level summarize, the tough cuts for me were Calhoun, Rivers and Dawson/Crossen. Those are all guys with talent at premium positions. Hopefully we can get at least one of Calhoun or Rivers onto IR and then it'd be great for us IMO if Froholdt could go on IR for what looks like a year of gamely inactive anyway to free up a spot for the extra CB.

^ so just realized I forgot Jon Jones at CB. So someone needs to go. As mentioned, hopefully we can just put Froholdt on IR to clear that spot. If not, roll with just 1 TE.

Also saw we traded for a center from BUF. Just give him Farentz spot in the 53.

I was going to say your list was excellent but Froholdt is probably IR - and here it is,

Could be the best roster since 2004. Pretty sure it's better than '14.

See 1 or 2 more trades out today.
