Or his cold bat for 2/3 of the season might mean there is no contention during the stretch...

It's hard for 1 player to lose a game (unless they're making a ton of errors).

1 hot bat can win you a lot of games though (refer to encarnacion's hot months).

I guess it would depend on when his key AB would be.

This maybe true in hockey where you can essentially hide a non performer on the 3rd or 4th line. Baseball is less forgiving, there is no where to hide in the batting order.

But even the best players can go 0-5 and their team pulls out the win. A hockey player who sucks but is forced to play 1/9 of the minutes would sink that team very quickly.

I think you guys understand what I'm saying. No sense in arguing semantics.

I mean, there's a whole league of teams that have to hide a pitcher in the order.

A Mr.October is better than a Mr. May. Grichuk is signed long term. If we get in playoffs he could be a force.

that's right and you can't hide them so managers came up with the double switch

The wouldn't have to hide them if they could hit for power like grich. A pitcher who does what grich does is basically ohtani.

Ohtani is a generational player. He won't pitch this season, hitting only.
