We did it folks! The division is ours. Time to discuss the roster now.

As flea pointed out there are a few questions on our bench, the locks are:

    Duvall
    Riley
    Hechavarria
    Flowers

    The bullpen locks are:

    Melancon
    Greene
    Martin
    Jackson
    Newcomb
Fried/Teheran (whoever isn't in te rotation)

    The lineup consist of:

    McCann
    Freeman
    Albies
    Donaldson
    Swanson
    Markakis
    Acuña
    Joyce

    Soroka
    Keuchel
    Folty
    Fried/Teheran

So there are 22 players who are a lock to be in the postseason roster. If Inciarte is ready (and it appear he will be) he's also a lock, if I have to guess he won't be in the everyday lineup, either way he is player number 23. Having inciarte makes Hamilton expendable, so in this scenario he's out.

We need at least another reliever, and it'll come down to Blevins vs O'day (or both?), If the Braves want to go with a 7 man bullpen it will depend on who is the 4th starter, if they choose to go with Fried, then Blevins is my pick, if we go with Teheran, O'day is our guy.

The Braves might take both of them and go with a 5 man bench, if they're not, the options are: Cervelli, Hamilton or Ortega.

Against RHP inciarte is our only left handed hitter on the bench, so there's a need there, vs LHP one of Duvall or Riley will replace Joyce, so there's a much more balanced bench in this scenario.

The Cards top 4 pitchers are RHP though, Flaherty - Wainwright - Mikolas - Hudson
So there's no chance we see a LH starter in this series, is a shame what happened to Camargo because it would be a no brainer here. If I have to make a choice, based on everything I pointed out a left handed hitter is what we need, so I would go with Ortega as our 25th man.

His 63 wRC+ against RHP is not insipiring though, but I still love his swing.

Yeah - this has been in my mind too. It certainly won’t last - their career tells us that - but a lot of these moves by AA have worked out better than most expected.

    I heard Acuna like challenges?

I hear-by challenge Acuna Jr to win WS MVP and to hit over .300 becoming the founder of the 50/50 club of n 2020! I think all of this can be accomplished with his talent! Can I get a second.

Bowman tweeted Soroka will be on a pitch count tomorrow. He thinks the plan is to start Soroka game 3. His home ERA is 4.14 in 13 starts and 1.35 in 13 road starts.

Soroka is actually having his start pushed back to Sunday. Josh Tomlin will start tomorrow. This would put Soroka on track to start game 2 on Oct 4.

Him being ready for the playoffs is way more important. Might make Hamilton a lock for the roster so he can slide over in late game if needed.

Inciarte might be back Friday. If he’s cleared for the playoffs then I would assume Inciarte will get a roster spot.

At this point I would consider both Inciarte and Hamilton. The only guarantees I see right now are back up catcher (likely Flowers but hoping for Cervelli), Hechavarria (only one left who can back up SS and 2B), and probably Duvall. Assuming Inciarte is healthy he’s either starting in center or he comes off the bench with Joyce starting in LF. That leaves likely one more bench spot. If Inciarte is given his starting spot in CF then Joyce and Duvall become our main pinch hitters. In that case I would give Hamilton the last spot. IMO his speed as a pinch runner could be extremely valuable. The Braves put Lane Adams on the roster last year for the same reason. Hamiltons speed vs Adams isn’t even a debate. Having a weapon like Hamilton pinch running for a slow hitter late in a game will be very valuable.

Say we need a run late in a game. Somebody like McCann hitting low in the line up gets on. Hamilton pinch runs. You then have a chance to get the top of the order up with his speed on base. You gotta feel great about your chances there.

The Brewers are surging right now. Who would you all rather play? The Brewers don’t have Yelich and are the easier match up on paper but the Braves always seem to struggle with them. But at the same time I trust the Cardinals more to beat the Nats and still have a chance to beat the Dodgers.

DOB confirmed Camargo out for NLDS. He still can’t put weight on his leg.

Stoked for the playoffs. I'm really interested to see the roster decisions that are made for the post season and where we end up slotting our starters in.

I get starting Keuchel in the first game but I don't like having Soroka slated for the third game. He is our best pitcher. Starting him 3rd means we can only get one start out of him in the series. The home/road splits are interesting on the surface, but the advanced stats show he is basically the same home and away.

The other question is who our other starters are. It's between Folty, Fried and Teheran. I think Folty starts game 2, he's been electric over the last month. Then it's Fried or Teheran. I am split on this one, but I think Fried in the bullpen makes more sense with his stuff. Teheran could replace Tomlin, but the possibility of multiple Fried appearances in the bullpen is tantalizing.

Bullpen question is do we keep O'Day for the postseason roster? I definitely would. I'd go: Melancon, Greene, Martin, Newcomb, Jackson and then either Fried or Teheran. Might also want to keep Blevins for another lefty, especially if Fried doesn't go to the bullpen.
