Neal Pionk has 1 breakup in 77 targets. He basically hands the opposing team the zone.

And these are your biggest sieves at the blueline.

In 54 targets, Klingberg has 1 breakup and has allowed 47 controlled entries.

I agree Pionk would be a good option except when he gets back we’ll likely have all our defenseman and Lindgren might get sent down. And then factor in that Pionk has been playing exclusively with Staal. It just seems unlikely.

David Staple of the Edmonton Journal: Rishaug’s comments sounds like the Oilers could be offering up either Cam Talbot or Mikko Koskinen, a first-round pick, and maybe one of Kailer Yamamoto, Tyler Benson, Cameron Hebig or Jesse Puljujarvi. The young player would depend on who they are acquiring.
Would love to take one of Edmonton’s best young players and a potential lottery pick from them. It seems like Chiarelli’s willing to sacrifice anything to save his job, and if the team were smart, they’d fire him before he gets the chance to do any more damage.

He’s probably our best chance at getting anything for McQuaid.

My guess: Hayes, Zuccarello, McQuaid, Vesey, Smith, Shattenkirk, DeAngelo, Staal, MacCleod, Georgiev

Hayes and Zucc for sure. McQuaid might be a tough sell, but then again we got a 3rd and a low end prospect for Holden last year. I could see Smith being sent down, but I’m not sure anyone trades for him at this point with two years at $4M per left after this year. Vesey ($2.28M), Namestnikov ($4M), and Fast ($1.85M) could all help a contender, but all have another year left. I wonder if someone gets desperate enough to give us what it would take to get Kreider.

I would hope we'd get a kings ransom for Kreider

I think the fear with Colorado is the Rangers prioritizing Bowers and having him be the centerpiece from a prospect standpoint. And being that he’s a BU guy who brings toughness that’s something you should be very scared of

Would it not be a huge failure to walk away from a trade with the avs without Makar or the avs pick(would take more than Hayes)? Maaaybe kaut but he’s not near the value of the 2 aforementioned pieces

Reminder that the Rangers DESPERATLEY wanted Makar when it was his draft year. Would be hard to pry from Colorado for sure, but keep it in mind

Hayes is a really good fit for them. Zucc too, on a smaller scale.

Two more scouts from NY Rangers at #Avs game today. They’ve been following team everywhere lately. I definitely think a deal of some magnitude could happen by deadline. But Avs will not be trading that Ottawa pick @BSNDenver

I’d hold out for as long as possible for the Ottawa pick or make a deal elsewhere. If they can find a better deal go ahead. If not they will concede that pick. Let other teams inevitably bid for Hayes and raise the market value. Not like Colorado will turn around and get the alternative option, Matt Duchene.

Hell package Hayes with Zucc or Quaid while they’re at it. Makar would be a huge addition as would that 1st Ottawa, we have no reason to deal them Hayes(+) without getting one of those two items.

They aren’t giving up the Ottawa pick for a rental. That is a fact. It’s a potential first overall pick. Sakic isn’t going to be bullied into giving it up, but they do have other useful pieces, so the focus should be on those. Take the best offer and move on.

I hear what you’re saying, and he probably shouldn’t, but he has zero leverage. A player of quality as a centerpiece in a return will be very good. Teams will be lining up so I’m not dealing with Sakic unless he’s ready to move Makar or Ottawa’s 1st.

They probably will wait out the Hayes situation rather than get seriously involved anyways.

If the Rangers really want that pick, I would ask for Zibanejad, Zuccarello, and Pionk. Zibanejad at least has 3 more years on his contract after this season, and Pionk is another good young piece to make up some of the the difference. If the Ottawa pick is even in the discussion, it’s going to take a dynamic impact player with multiple years of control left. Tarasenko is another guy that might make them think about it, but for a rental it’s not happening.

And Colorado absolutely does have leverage. It’s that there’s no urgent need to move those pieces. They’re future impact players and the team’s best players are still quite young, so it’s not like their window is closing.

The rumor is they are not moving that 1st or Makar but they may consider Martin Kaut, Shane Bowers and Conor Timmins.
