So if the Braves lost the 9th pick by not offering Stewart 40% (or whatever the minimum is) then that wouldn't fall on their shoulders.
They don't negotiate contracts? I don't know much about it, but I have to guess that they are pretty much involved in negotiations because they have to know what a prospect want so they can develop some strategy.

He probably doesn't sign the contract but they might have ****ed up at some point.

Good call. I didnít even think about the Stewart issue.

I donít know how it works either but considering that they are scouts I would assume they wouldnít play a role in negotiating dollars and cents. I know in the NFL teams have someone whose job is solely to negotiate contracts and work how the money fits into the salary cap. I would assume Bridges and Clark being scouts wouldnít have much of an input in determining money.

You might be right and this has nothing to do with Carter, at least we hope.

That's what I'm hoping lol If we lose the 9th overall pick that's going to sting big time.

Interesting tid bit from Bowman's article on their firing:

Clark made his mark on the Braves' organization throughout the 1990s and remained with the club through 2009. He then had stints with the Nationals and Dodgers before Coppolella and Hart lured him back to Atlanta to serve as a special assistant to the GM after the '14 season.

Clark maintained that title until the latter portion of 2017, when Coppolella demoted him to the role of special advisor. This seemed to be in response to a disagreement over the '17 Draft in which Clark and Bridges had lobbied for Austin Beck, while Coppolella wanted Keston Hiura taken with the fifth-overall selection.

Once Draft day unfolded, the Braves took advantage of the unexpected chance to take Kyle Wright. Still, while those pre-Draft discussions had lingering effects, they never weakened the indelible bond Bridges shares with Clark.

Obviously very happy to have Wright but Hiura is a hell of a hitter. Would be interesting to see who won that battle if Wright was off the board.

These QO are killing FAs. He basically signed the QO, plus a bit. Now he has to risk another long season and try and get a long term deal next year.

Donít get me wrong, I donít feel sorry for Grandal. That is a bunch of $$. But this is happening to more and more guys who turn down the QO.

Whew! That would have really stunk. Maintaining that pick should help keep the farm stocked...or maybe help re stock after a trade or two.
