Got to pay top dollar for OT's. That's just how it goes. At least it wasn't Trent Brown level and at least we know James is more on the solid side than not. And anyway folks...just wait two years when some other OT is going to get paid stupid money and James is going to look like a bargain...happens everytime.

Love the acquisition though. James is easily the best RT we've had since Orlando Franklin...and he's better than him...it's been a LOOOONG time since we've had ourselves a promising RT (and the guy is only like 26/27 so we have all those prime years)

Tack along that Munchak is our OL guru...and we got ourselves a possible all-pro here. Can't wait to see how Munchak molds Bolles. We have true talent at the OT position guys...be excited.

It seriously bums me out that we were really damn close to having Jackson AND Amos WITH James to start off FA. That would of been a damn dream...Amos and Jackson would of brought supreme versatility while Scrap dog handles his thing. Secondary would of pretty much been fixed.

We have a lot of safties...just no one that is a staple. I like Jamal Carter...but he's more of a box safety/LB mix...with coverage questions..got to see if he comes back from injury. I like Cravens but he seems to be falling out of Denver's grace by the second and doesn't really look like it's getting any better. Dymonte Thomas is a nice prospect but not too sure of his upside. Will Parks seems to be the go to guy but just think he's limited athletically...not exactly a true box safety but neither a coverage specialist...just seems to be a nice guy to have...just not THE guy..

With Fangio and Donatell's track record...I'm sure they would be able to develop a few of these guys to find a nice niche in the secondary...so I wouldn't be depressed if we stayed pat...but chances are we'll add another piece.

Jackson is a little pricey (and older) but his versatility is what makes this a solid addition. Frankly, we could just have him at safety and we'd be alright..while we focus on getting a few CB's. A good piece to have in a zone coverage defense.

Time for Elway to strike gold in the 2nd/3rd waves...this is where he gets value.

Paradis is a true warrior and he deserved his money....but there is something that we just don't trust with his health.

If we spend premium money and the guy suffers a set back...folks are thrashing Elway on how he could invest that type of money in a position that you can find easier replacements for. We can hit this in the draft. We can find an in house option.

Most importantly, we have Munchak guys. The Bill Kollar of the o-line. If there is ANYONE who can find a viable replacement at C...it's that dude.

C will be fine. Not something I'm stressing about. Do need to improve the depth along the o-line though.

Interesting Beckham had us as one of his preferred destinations. He cited his personal relationship with Von. Not sure we’d want that in our locker room but I found it interesting as well as how much Von brings to the table off the field. I knew it was a lot , just didn’t realize how much

Denver broncos 2019 off season thread

Packer fan here...looking for some insight on Billy Taylor.

We have signed him to presumably be our starting RG/Backup RT insurance.

We will be running a stretch ZBS, which requires a more athletic type of OLman.

Thoughts on Billy? At G? At T? Has he reached his potential?

(I just moved from Denver, was living right down the street from the stadium on the south side of Sloan’s. Love the city)

Its Billy Turner and he can play pretty much any spot on the line. Super versatile, made big strides last season and finally showing that he deserves a starting spot.

Eh I wouldn't say that he deserves a starting spot lol. He's good depth because he plays multiple positions but he isn't very good at any position.

Turner made massive strides last year under Sean Kugler (now the o-line coach for the Cardinals). Frankly, he was pretty damn worthless his first two years with us. Awful wherever you put him. I often wondered why the hell we even kept him on the team.

But last year, the guy was a legitimate starting OL. I would put him more at guard...but if you're in a pinch..he can start at RT and he wasn't bad..just don't think it's wise to bank on the guy there.

His most optimized role is a swing guy (LG,RG, RT).

You definitely paid for a career year for Billy. I'm not familiar with your OL coach but if he is anything like Kugler...Billy will be fine. I'm sure having Rogers will greatly benefit him.

A stretch ZBS is perfect for Billy. He made impressive blocks in the second level with our scheme and his athleticism fits that style as well. Has he reached his potential? Ehh, think he can be a solid guard and an adequate RT. Don't think he'll be "elite" by any means but it wouldn't surprise me if you got good value from him.

But then again....it also wouldn't surprise me if he fell back down to earth after his career year. If you have a solid unit with coaching to back it up...I don't think you'll have to worry too much. Kugler really got this injured unit of ours to perform quite well with all the injuries.

Wow yeah, they didn't mess around. 3 years 21 mill is a nice contract for both sides. Makes it interesting where they go with 10. Lock ? Devin white fall?

Unfortunately Lock won't be around at 10. Which is kinda crazy. In a decent QB year he'd be a 2nd round pick at best.

I think these moves SCREAM Drew Lock. Here me out:

The Broncos figure to have about $70M in cap space next year. They have to sign CHJ. There's some others that they could resign but it isn't guaranteed. Those are the likes of Sanders, Wolfe, Shelby Harris, Leary, Parks, and Simmons.... Most of those guys aren't going to command a lot of money unless they have huge years this year. And if you resign most of those players, and cut Flacco... You're sitting here with likely $50-$60 million to play with.

With that $60M, you have basically the defense taken care of. Broncos I am sure believe in Jewell and Davis in the middle, they've got the edge taken care of, they secondary figures to be in really good shape again, and the defensive line is something that Elway always addresses in the draft or in the bargain bin. I don't recall Elway ever signing a market priced defensive lineman lol.

But let's talk about Flacco again. Elway straight up said that Flacco will play on his current contract. That means no guaranteed money. If Elway projects Flacco to be here for a couple years, why wouldn't he redo his deal? If it was all about winning and he thought Flacco was the answer, why would he not try to lower Flacco's cap hit this year and use some of that ample cap space from next year? Why wouldn't he show faith in Flacco by giving him some guaranteed money? This is a man who added $3M in incentives to CHJ's contract last year just because he realizes that CHJ was underpaid. The only reason I can see that he wouldn't do this is because he views Flacco as a short term investment.

The Broncos were apparently enamoured with Lock. So much so that it was "The worst kept secret" at the senior bowl. Elway told Lock himself that he'd be a top ten pick in the draft. Then all of a sudden they aren't in love with him anymore? I call bull ****. This is lying season. The Broncos knew they had a problem with everyone knowing they liked Lock. There's several teams below them that need a QB and they don't want to be jumped like they were by the Jets last year. So if they're all in on Lock, it makes sense that they would pull a 180 and continue to leak to the media that there's no interest there. The issue is how fast it happened. If you're infatuated with someone, it doesn't just reverse course over night. It just lessens over time. And if you weren't really interested in drafting Lock, then you'd like it if everyone thought you wanted him because it will push other players down in the draft.

If you're going to draft a QB, you'd rather not have to play him right away. But you'd want someone in front of him with a similar skill set and a similar type of game. Preferably, you'd want the guy in front of the rookie to have had success in the league. Flacco and Lock are very similar in their strengths and how they play. Far more similar than Keenum and Lock. Flacco has had much more success in the league than Keenum. And what's the best situation for a first year starting QB to walk into? How about a red shirt season followed by an off-season where the team can spend a lot of money to get nice reliable weapons for you?

I think Flacco was brought in as an attempt by the organization to properly groom a QB. I think the fact that Elway won't redo Flacco's contract to free up more money is an indictment on how long Elway believes Flacco will be here. I believe that addressing the secondary this year sets the defense up so that the real money can be spent on the offense next year. And I don't believe that the Broncos mysteriously fell out of love with Lock overnight.

I think there's a chance Lock is there at 10. But it also might take trading up to get him. I don't buy that the Raiders are going to draft a QB top 5. The Jaguars are not taking a QB after the deal they just gave Foles. If the Cardinals take a QB, it would be Murray. 49ers won't because they have Jimmy G. Jets just drafted a QB last year. Jets just drafted Darnold last year. Bucs owner said their new head coach had to be on board with sticking with Winston. Giants seem to be tanking so it wouldn't shock me if they don't take a QB... If they do, it's likely Haskins. And the Bills won't take a QB because they just drafted Allen last year. And the Lions have Stafford. So it seems to be shaking up that Denver's biggest hurdle to get Lock is the fear of a team below them jumping ahead of them

And Lock would be a first round pick in basically every draft. A big misconception about this QB class is that they're all bad... That's not true. None of them are can't miss prospects, but both Haskins and Lock project pretty well as NFL players. The issue with this QB class is the QB's after those two. There's a couple that are boom or bust in Murray and Jones.... But after that, the talent falls off a cliff. There's not 1 projected future starter outside of those 4. That's why this class sucks. Because there's not a can't miss prospect and the drop off after the first group of QB's is insane.
