The Netflix doc that follows her and other progressive Dems (the other 3 lost their races) was a good watch. It's nice to get a look behind the scenes and see how important grass roots organization can be. She took down a man who had everything stacked in his favor to not be taken down, and did it by working insanely hard and working with incredibly passionate people. Politics aside, there was a lot of stuff there that we just don't ever see.

I think there's something for most anyone of any political persuasion, so long as you have any open mind.

this is something that I would expect someone on the right to say.
"This is a technique of the left wing media, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and “fact check” it."

but that isn't a quote from the right, it's what AOC said about GOP.

the "fact checking" that is done against Trump is literally anything he has said, and they take him seriously on everything. I know that I have had this conversation at PSD about lying and exaggerating. it would have to be hypocritical for anyone to agree with AOC on this when it's the same thing done for Trump.

    was 12 years dry humor/sarcasm?

Ocasio-Cortez Rebuffs ‘Fact-Checkers,’ Says The World Ending In 12 Years Was ‘Dry Humor’
    partial quote..

And during a live stream in April, Ocasio-Cortez mocked critics who blew off the claim as a joke, making it clear that she was serious when she said, “We have 12 years left to cut emissions by at least 50%, if not more, and for everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not.”

She went on to compare those who ignore climate change with those who sat on the sidelines during the Civil Rights movement. “So just know that while a lot of people can hide that their grandparents did that in the civil rights movement, you should also know that the internet documents everything,” Ocasio-Cortez warned. “And your grandchildren will not be able to hide the fact that you fought against acknowledging and taking bold action against climate change.”

She concluded by saying once more that it was not a joke. “And for those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now,” she said.

The tweet pinned to the top of Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter profile, posted just two weeks later, again cites the 12-year deadline along with a video showing how the world could progress if people would only heed such warnings and take them seriously.

Ocasio-Cortez To Critics Of Green New Deal: "I Pity You For Your Role In History Right Now"
On Instagram Live Wednesday night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke to critics who laugh and make jokes about her often-repeated statement that "we have twelve years left to cut emissions by at least 50%" to stop the most devastating effects of climate change.

"For everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not," she warned. "So, understand that the internet documents everything."

"For those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now," Ocasio-Cortez explained.

REP. ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ: "How many years until the world ends again?"

We have twelve years left to cut emissions by at least 50%, if not more, and for everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not.

So, understand that the internet documents everything.

You know, you want to look about, you want to talk about looking at the back of history, looking backward?

You look back and you open history books on the civil rights movement, and you see those folks who are protesting against the ability for African-Americans and black Americans to have the right to vote, and they would hold up these bigoted signs, and they would hold up signs that said things like ‘what about white rights?’ and all of this stuff, in the 1950s, 1960s.

So just know that in the present day there a lot of people who hide the fact that their families and that their grandparents fought against principles of equal rights in the United States. Not 100 years ago, not 80 years ago, but in this generation’s lifetime.

So just know that while a lot of people can hide that their grandparents did that in the civil rights movement, you should also know that the internet documents everything. And your grandchildren will not be able to hide the fact that you fought against acknowledging and taking bold action against climate change.

And for those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now.

do people really expect over the next 12 years that the world will end as we know it, or even that there will be significant change if nothing is done about climate change? this seems more like fear mongering as do something now or else.

AOC was scared of her garbage disposal, literally. snopes even said it's true.

Was U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez ‘Scared’ by Her Garbage Disposal?
    TRUE
her video is here to see..

    https://nypost.com/2019/05/07/ocasio...bage-disposal/

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is learning a lot of new things in Washington — including what a garbage disposal is.

The 29-year-old freshman congresswoman posted photos and videos on Instagram showing the apparently “terrifying” contraption at work in her swanky DC apartment and saying she’d never seen one before.

“OK everyone I need your help because I just moved into this apartment a few months ago and I just flipped a switch and it made that noise and it scared the daylights out of me,” Ocasio-Cortez can be heard saying in footage.

“I am told this is a garbage disposal. I’ve never seen a garbage disposal. I never had one in any place I’ve ever lived,” she later said.

The “Green New Deal”-touting Bronx Democrat wondered whether the device was “environmentally sound.”

“This DC apartment is bougie and has things I’ve never seen before…,” Ocasio-Cortez captioned the video, later noting: “Is this what social mobility is? Using kitchen appliances you never saw growing up?”

The Bronx-born representative ended her Instagram story by quipping, “All you people telling me to reach in and grab whatever’s there are just Republicans trying to test my health insurance.”

    “I’m onto you.”

I've never had a garbage disposal, but I still know what one is. I can imagine not knowing you have one and then after flipping a switch and hearing the noise one is startled at first, but it shouldn't take much time to realize what it is.

An integral part of conservatism right now, and especially conservative media, involves creating a version of the left that just simply isn't true. Just listen to Tucker or any of his cretinous ilk talk about anything the left is proposing. It's why Mitch called Joe Freaking Biden a socialist the other day, and we spent 8 years hearing how Obama was a communist hell bent on destroying our freedoms. It's why they default to "well why don't you move to Venezuela", basking in their ignorance. It's why, I think, these weirdos in this forum cling to every little word these progressive women say.

In the end, they're promoting policy that undeniably seeks to help out the average person in this country. The right is not offering those solutions at all. So they have to work harder. They have to explain to us how what we see is not actually what we see. They're painting an alternate reality. And it's part of the reason why we're so often left with the insanity we've seen in this and the Omar thread from people like FNK. There are other reasons too (I know it might trigger some people, but it certainly has to do with their age, their sex and, especially in Omar's case, her religion).

But it's also because they just don't have answers to the problems these women are seeking to fix. That's why we see all of this behavior instead. So instead, they smear away. They fixate on the dumbest and most meaningless things. And frankly, they just project. All the time.

In group/out group and a need to focus on and attack the other sides, mostly trying to do so one the extremes and attribute it to individuals on the other team as a whole.

You are spot on as to why this keeps happening and we see it all over the forum with ridiculous/no validity of arguments and a focus on some sort of team game aspect (whether it be that Omar is muslim or democrat the point is it's a bad team to some as seen in that thread). AOC thread and Omar thread are full of it and it often comes from the people who admit to watching said fox news haha (sluggo/FNK).

I mean the one about AOC gardening is yet another example, imagine actually spending time upset about stuff like this with Donald Trump as president and also trying to defend him on a regular basis for much much worse stuff. It has nothing to do with being excited about gardening lol who would actually care about that in politics, it has everything to do with the team sport and attacking people on other teams. The policy or logic behind ideas no longer matter it is about beating the other side. See the environmental threads in comparison to the threads designed on attacking Omar without validty etc. and the volume just doesn't compare despite one of these having far more validity/reason for concern as a whole.

It isn't about creating the best policy to help America anymore, it is about having the in group win at all costs no matter the validity etc.

I think these observations are accurate and one of the reasons why this forum is increasingly dreary.

We rant and rave about a phrase that some first term congresswoman said or about gardening as magic, but we can’t get even a moderately viable dialogue about something critical like the environment.

By the way, I recommend Bill McKibben’s newest book (Falter).

I didn't read anything past here as I'm sure it's more gibberish nonsense.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez keeps putting herself in the news. she is this new Democrat toy for the media to talk about, both media on the left and right, but I'm not supposed to cover what she has been saying that has been covered by many different media? GTFO.

Trump says stupid stuff and people can comment on that, but when AOC says stupid stuff then nobody should say anything? this is hilarious, a double standard, and hypocritical. this is PSD.

I have also been someone to say Trump has said stupid things (plural). I had many in the Trump says thread before it was locked, and many since then as well.

AOC is a politician that gets covered by the media. she puts herself in the news. but those here at PSD don't want to talk about the stupid things she does or says? hypocrites.
