Michael Jeffrey Jordan has this easily, he would likely win in the top spot if taken first overall.

So, to give this thread some value, what are the top 5?

    1. Jordan
    2. McHale
    3. Maravich
    4. Gasol
    5. Harden

    ???

I can respect the other four on the list, but Maravich flat out does not deserve to be that high. There are probably 6-7 guys I'd easily rank higher and 2-4 others who have a decent case.

As for Maravich over Harden among SGs, that's just flat out wrong. Harden kills Pistol Pete in every conceivable category. Vastly superior numbers (especially advanced numbers, where Maravich truly sucks). More All-Star games and All-NBA selections. More games played and WAY more postseason games played. Harden has an MVP and two runner ups, whil Maravich finished third once and never topped 15th again.

There's just no leg to stand on in that argument. Maravich gets drastically overrated in historical conversations as it is, while Harden is probably already a top 5 all-time shooting guard.

I honestly think we should just move on to 2nd pick. This is way to obvious. Jordan and itís not even close.

    It is obviously Laettner.

Only NCAA player to play for Team USA. Best NCAA scorer and back-to-back champion. A true legend indeed.

On a serious note my top 5 would prolly look like:

    1. Jordan
    2. McHale
    3. Harden
    4. Wilkins
    5. Billups

I prefer Billups over Gasol for his leadership. This guy was also a killer in money time.

Penny, Hill and Williams could have been much higher if injuries didn't ruin most of their careers

This is my five in order as well with Pau just slightly ahead of Billups for that fifth spot.

The legend of Pete is what carries him.

But it wouldn't take much convincing for me to adjust him to 6th/7th on my list. It's from a lack of knowledge, not expectation of knowledge. It's so hard to adjust for older players.

I actually like the list of

    Jordan
    McHale
    Harden
    Gasol
    Billups
    Wilkins
    Maravich

Wilkins more of a peak guy obviously. I like the sustaining career
