China's economy dwarfs all of the European countries. Are the European countries not still 1st world countries?
Bottom line, China is a 1st world country.

Economy size isnt what dictates that.

I'm not entirely sure, but I know it isnt based on size of economy.

10 years ago half of China lived in poverty. In the 90's pretty much the entire country lived in poverty.

Get them to comply with the Paris Accords like other industrialized countries have to.

The trick is how? They’ve already pledged to be carbon neutral by 2050. We haven’t even pledged that.

I agree, I’m very skeptical that they will follow through on their pledge.

I have stated earlier that the Paris Accords are essentially diplomatic in nature — of little substance, really. Pledges, targets, challenges, hopes, and dreams.

But what exactly is wrong with that? How is it negative? How does it hurt?

This might (or might not) substantiate your claim.

And increased taxes for us to pay. We are funding most of the effort. Get China in line with them or they are worthless.

They aren’t worthless, any reduction in global CO2 is a positive. If we all adopt the China mentality it will be far worse than if only China adopts such a mentality.

Please provide data for the statement in bold. The data I have from 2017 (see charts on pages 7,8 & 9 on link below) shows that the US has done nothing remotely close to “most”.

Furthermore, from what I have read, there are no hard and fast financial obligations per se, only an obligation to “seek to mobilize financial support to assist...”

“Article 9 of the PA reiterates the obligation in the Convention for developed country Parties, including the United States, to seek to mobilize financial support to assist developing country Parties with climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts (Article 9.1). Also, for the first time under the UNFCCC, the PA encourages all Parties to provide financial support voluntarily, regardless of their economic standing (Article 9.2). The agreement states that developed country Parties should take the lead in mobilizing climate finance and that the mobilized resources may come from a wide variety of sources. It adds that the mobilization of climate finance “should represent a progression beyond previous efforts” (Article 9.3).“

    https://fas.org/sgp/crs/row/R44870.pdf

Obviously, the Trump Administration would have nothing to do with this. Fair enough. But the American public rejected him, his administration, and presumably his stance on these accords.

Instead, we elected a candidate who pledged as part of his campaign to address climate change directly. The people spoke, and the Biden Administration has begun the task of carrying through with that pledge, which includes reaffirming the Paris Agreement.

As for China, I see you made no response to my post #551.
