Let’s talk after 400 PAs. By then his stats should normalize.

Meh. There's a Max Muncy or two every year. He's been a fringe prospect for a while, hasn't shown a ton of power, and didn't start really hitting at the AAA level until he was 26 and on his third trip around the league. For his sake I hope he keeps it up and shocks everyone, that'd be a good story. But he also was a -.7 fWAR hitter for 250 PA's entering the year and we have seen far more Max Muncy's end up on the scrap heap after a few good months than we do Max Muncy's who keep up amazing paces.

IDK, he's always had really good plate discipline, and he hasn't lost that at all in his transition as a hitter, he made some adjustments to his swing as well.
I understand the pessimism, but what he's doing seems sustainable.

Fangraphs had a rather interesting article on him.

*Some* of what he's doing is sustainable. A .340 ISO isn't sustainable. Adjustments or not, that's Barry Bonds level of ISO. He won't keep that.

There's definitely things to like. But until Max Muncy can do it over a larger sample size, pessimism on a 27 year old rookie with a .418 wOBA at the majors when he was a decent, but not great hitter overall in the minors, is probably the way to go. If he surprises and keeps it, than I'm all for giving him the credit.

His BABIP is only sitting at .286 as well. His batted ball percentages are VERY similar to Trout’s this year. Not comparing them at all, just saying that it looks like this is more than “luck” for Muncy. He’s hitting the ball very well.
