Red Sox (41-19) vs Tigers (28-31)

    Game 1: Steven Wright (1-0, 2.25) vs Artie Liewicki (0-0, 3.60)
The knuckleballer is making a spot start because the Red Sox had 26 games in 27 days. Wright has been strong out of the bullpen since coming back from the DL. The expectation is that he can pitch five or six innings in his first start.

Liewicki will make his second career start as the Tigers fill spots for the injured Jordan Zimmerman and Francisco Liriano. The UVA product has been effective in long relief and has escaped a bases-loaded jam he inherited Friday vs Toronto.

    Game 2: Eduardo Rodriguez (6-1, 3.88) vs Blaine Hardy (2-0, 2.77)
[Rodriguez] has quietly settled into a better rhythm, allowing three earned runs or less in his last five starts. In three career starts against the Tigers, Rodriguez is 1-1 with a 4.15ERA.

[Hardy, a] converted lefty reliever is making a case to stick as a starter with back-to-back quality starts in wins over the White Sox and Blue Jays. He has allowed three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts over 13 innings in his past two starts.

    Game 3: Drew Pomeranz (1-3, 6.81) vs Matthew Boyd (3-4, 3.23)
[Pomeranz] took a small step forward in his last start, going five innings after going four innings or less in three previous outings. But Pomeranz continues to have mediocre results. He gave up six hits and four runs on May 31 vs the Astros.

Boyd overcame spotty breaking balls and a couple home runs to deliver seven innings against the Blue Jays, keeping the Tigers in position for a late inning win. The Red Sox will test his .221 average and .646 OPS to right handed hitters.
