Still kind of irrationally hoping that Kumar Rocker slides to the Cubs due to signability issues and they throw like 4M at him. They need an arm with that kind of upside.

Fangraphs dropped a two round mock with the Cubs taking Virginia LHP Daniel Lynch at 24. While Lynch was their pick, it was noted that the Cubs are in on a ton of prep bats (Nick Schnell, Anthony Seigler, Xavier Edwards, and Brice Turang, along with maybe Triston Casas), as well as Mason Denaburg and other college pitchers who might fall. Since it was a two rounder, including the compensation rounds, the Cubs had four picks in this one. Aside from Lynch they had:

    62. Lyon Richardson - high school RHP
    77. Will Banfield - high school C
    78. Gage Canning - Arizona State CF

High school center fielder Alek Thomas, a Chicago product, hasn't been tied much to the Cubs, but he's definitely on the list of prep bats that I'd be interested in. Small frame, not much power projection, but a polished hitter with the speed to profile in center. Draws comps to Jacoby Ellsbury, so I wonder if he has some fans in the organization.

If you’re talking about CCDT, his website doesn’t exist anymore

Once again I have zero beef with this FO going after bats. They've proved to me it's where we thrive.

At the end of the day these generational bats are the guys we can use to flip for the generational arms we just seem to avoid every draft.

How the hell did not we not get a better pick for Arrieta? These draft rules blow.

Hoping we can nab atleast one really good overslot guy with our 2nd rounder or comp picks.

Would love to get atleast 2 legit prospects out of this draft.

Overall it's exciting to be able to pick 5 of the top 100 guys here. It gives you a lot of flexibility to take overslot guys who fall.

    Here’s why:

If a team that loses a qualifying free agent is a revenue-sharing recipient, then the team -- if and only if the lost player signs for at least $50 million -- is awarded a compensatory pick between the first round and Competitive Balance Round A. If the player signs for less than $50 million, the compensation pick for the team comes after Competitive Balance Round B
We got a 3rd rd pick because the Phillies forfeited their 2nd rd pick for Carlos Santana because he signed for $60 mil.

It's because the Cubs are a large market team. If they were a small market team they would have received a pick in comp round a round earlier. Teams signing players do not forfeit picks anymore and the Santana deal is unrelated to the Cubs compensation.

I'm really hoping a good college bat or one of the elite high school bats fall to us because we struggle with this whole college pitching thing. I would be absolutely floored if we took a high school pitcher before round 5 if at all.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. I will update if I hear anything interesting.

Think there's a stream to watch it online? I don't currently have TV service.
