The Rays lead the majors in ERA (2.79) since May 19, when they first employed the “opener” strategy.

i know the sample size is very limited, but this is pretty impressive? doesnt give 1-3 to get a 2nd look at the started in the 3rd/4th inning

I am interested to see this playout for the rest of the season
    It's a small sample size.

No one said otherwise. Still worth mentioning the success they've had with it so far.

i dont have any new stats for the opener strategy the Rays have been using, but today, they put Romo at 3rd base while TB brought a lefty to face Byrd then put Romo back on the mound to finish the game

the way how this team is managed is creative

Maddon does something similar a few times a year. We had two different pitchers and one position player all play left field in the same inning this year as he played the matchups. I usually enjoy it.

Kevin Cash deserves serious manager of the year consideration. I never imagined Tampa would be remotely decent this year, yet here we are at the end of July and they're above. 500
