Finally Home: Red Sox (28-12) vs Athletics (19-21)

    Game 1: Rick Porcello (5-0, 2.79) vs Sean Manaea (4-4, 2.11)
Porcello will open the series against the Athletics when the Red Sox return home to Boston on Monday night. The righthander has opened the season with an impressive 2.79ERA, thanks in large part to his low home run and walk rates.

After allowing five runs total across six starts in the month of April, Manaea has give up four runs in each of his last two starts, most recently against Houston. The lefty scattered seven hits and struck out three in 5-2/3 innings.

    Game 2: Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 4.58) vs Daniel Mengden (2-4, 4.06)
Rodriguez is coming off one of his stronger outings on Thursday as he pitched five shutout innings with eight K's. That was a noticeable rebound from his last outing, when he allowed five runs -- and three homers -- over six innings vs Texas.

Mengden fared well against the Astros on Wednesday despite taking the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in 6-2/3 innings. He fanned four and didn't walk a batter. He's issued just five walks in 44-1/3 innings this season.

    Chris Sale (3-1, 2.17ERA) vs Kendall Graveman (1-5, 7.60)
Sale was at his best in his last outing on Friday as he struck out 15 Blue Jays. He now has 27 strikeouts over his last 16 innings, and has thrown more than 100 pitches in four of his past five starts.

Graveman was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday to face the Yankees in New York, where he allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Note: The Red Sox have played 19 of their last 25 games on the road.

Carson Smith, who missed 5/15/16 - 9/5/17 due to Tommy John surgery, is now on the DL w/ a right shoulder subluxation suffered while throwing his glove in frustration last night. Its got the potential to be a major injury, said Dave Domnrowski.

I'm anxiously waiting for Pedroia to return. We need more offense from 2b. Nunez and holt are not really contributing all that much

The Sox got incredibly lucky with Nunez and the frozen market. The relatively big money/years deal that he was looking for turned into a one-year $4M contract. Thank goodness that he's not too expensive to find some pine.

True. He's off to a rough start and will be a good utility guy. Just don't see him as an every day player
