Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna was arrested early this morning, per John Lott of The Athletic (subscription link). Osuna has been charged with domestic assault of his girlfriend, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet tweets.

Details are scant at this point, so it’s far too soon to assess the situation. The precise nature of the allegations, possible range of legal ramifications, and potential for league punishment are all completely unknown publicly. Osuna has been released and so will theoretically be available to pitch for the Jays, but otherwise his status is not clear.

That said, given that this matter reportedly arose in the context of a domestic relationship, it would appear at first glance to fall within the purview of the MLB-MLBPA Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Under that policy, commissioner Rob Manfred has the authority to “place a player accused of” such behavior “on paid Administrative Leave for up to seven days while the allegations are investigated before making a disciplinary decision,” though players also have a mechanism to challenge that treatment “immediately.”

must be a closer thing??... Familia, Chapman, and Osuna all connected to a domestic violence issue in some way in the last few years, right?

When are guys going to figure it out that its not okay to put your hands on women period? I would suspend Osuna for the whole season. You want to call that excessive? Fine but losing a whole season's salary might wake his *** up, along with whatever DV courses he has to take.

    This hurts my fantasy team

Second year in a row I had a domestic abuser closer on my team (Familia, Osuna).

I find it shocking that anyone would behave in that manner.

There are always two sides to this stuff, obviously. And there is a point where if a woman is violent, it's difficult to not need to restrain her, which can make it technically, you being violent.

But damn, why would you ever physically try to harm a woman? Women are ****ing beautiful creatures man. Maybe psychotic, but beautiful.

    That's always someone's daughter.

It does suck too, because I think Osuna is the youngest to 100 saves. He has amazing talent, needs to not let **** like this get in the way of a great career.

Unless your life is in danger, there is no justification to hit a woman imo. Not to mention, many of these DV cases are very similar (if of course the allegations are true). Man hits woman in a case of rage and may or may not repeat said behavior.

That all being said, Osuna deserves a lengthy suspension. Slapping him on the wrist is not acceptable imo. I felt the same way about Chapman and Familia as well. There are very few things worse in the world imo than hitting/sexually assaulting a woman.

    Agreed

    Completely.

If you are a person who gets into physical fights/assaults in general in life. You should probably reevaluate your anger thresholds.

We, as a species, are way past the need for physical violence for food/survival/domination, etc. I can't imagine getting so mad that I want to hit someone. I've never understood the guys that do.
