Strategy to Return to Championship Form... It all starts with Melo?

    Trade 1:

    Miami Heat Receive:
    Carmelo Anthony (34)- Owed $27.928M in 2018 & Free Agent in 2019.
    Kyle Singler (30)- Owed $4.996M in 2018 w/ Non-Guaranteed $5.334M 2019 Option (Negotiate Buyout).
Alex Abrines (25)- Owed $5.455M in 2018 & Restricted Free Agent in 2019.
    2021 2nd Rd Selection.

    Oklahoma City Thunder Receive:
    James Johnson (31)- Guaranteed $30M through 2019 w/ $16M 2020 Player Option.
    Dion Waiters (26)- Guaranteed $36.3M through 2020.
    Goran Dragic (32)- Guaranteed $18.109M in 2018 & $19.218M 2019 Player Option.

    - Try to land a future 1st. Attempt to include Tyler Johnson & keep Dragic. Fold and include Dragic to clear Waiters & Johnson's money off the books for 3 expiring contracts. Reset the Salary Cap for 2019 Free Agency (when everyone's hearing Kevin Durant will leave Golden State).

    Trade 2:

    Miami Heat Receive:
    Willie Cauley-Stein (25)- Guaranteed $4.697M in 2018 & RFA in 2019 ($6.266M Qualifying Offer).
    Garrett Temple (32)- Guaranteed $8.0M in 2018 & Free Agent in 2019.
    Zach Randolph (37)- Guaranteed $11.692M in 2018 & Free Agent in 2019.
2021 2nd Rd Selection (Originally Miamiís Selection).

    Sacramento Kings Receive:
    Hassan Whiteside (29)- Guaranteed $25.434M in 2018 & $27.097M 2019 Player Option.
    Justice Winslow (22)- Guaranteed $3.449M in 2018 & RFA in 2019 ($4.697M Qualifying Offer).

    - Dealing Whiteside along with the wing Kings have been trying to find in Free Agency clears Hassan off the books. Let Kings decide the players coming back of their group on expiring deals... Iman Shumpert, Zach Randolph, Garrett Temple, Kosta Koufos (Avoid). Get back 2021 2nd Rounder.

    Back to Free Agency:
    Dwayne Wade (36)- 1 Yr $4.2M Portion Mid-Level Exception.
    Isaiah Thomas (29)- 1 Yr $4.2M Portion Mid-Level Exception w/ Trade Kicker.
    Greg Monroe (28)- 1 Yr $3.4M Bi-Annual Exception.

Sign & Trade Wayne Ellington (New Orleans Pelicans) for 2021 2nd Rd Selection.

    - D Wade is an Ambassador of the Heat at this point & will be part of next summers recruiting efforts. Not 'Competing' in 2018-2019, bring back Wade and add the ever entertaining Isaiah Thomas to share point guard duties with Tyler Johnson. A reclamation project who could get you something at the deadline if team needs bench scoring? At least make the team fun to watch...

Focus accumulating 2021 Rd2 Picks (Non-Guaranteed) & Draft Yr HS kids should be eligible merging essentially 2 classes into one & depth should be available well into Rd2.

    2018-2019 Rotation:
    C: Willie Cauley-Stein (25)
    PF: Kelly Olynyk (27)
    SF: Josh Richardson (25)
    SG: Dwayne Wade (36)
    PG: Tyler Johnson (26)

    6. Carmelo Anthony (34)- Olynk Starts. Melo can prove if he's capable of being a 6th Man at this stage of his career.
    7. Bam Adebayo (21)
    8. Isaiah Thomas (29)
    9. Garrett Temple (32)- Explore In-Season Trade.
    10. Rodney McGruder (27)
    11. Greg Monroe (28)
    12. Alex Abrines (25)
    13. Zach Randolph (37)- Consider Buyout.
    14. Derrick Jones Jr (21)- Two Way Contract.

    FA(s):
    Carmelo Anthony (35)
    Garrett Temple (33)

    Josh Richardson (26)- $10.117M.
    Tyler Johnson (26)- $8.75M w/ New 5 Yr Contract.

    Bam Adebayo (21)- $3.454M w/ Club Option.
Rodney McGruder (27)- $1.931M Qualifying Offer Cap Hold.

    Free Agency Targets:
    Kevin Durant (31)
    Kawhi Leonard (28)
    Jimmy Butler (29)
    Kyrie Irving (27)
    Klay Thompson (29)
    Kemba Walker (29)
    DeMarcus Cousins (28)

    MLE Targets:
    Danny Green (32)
Goran Dragic (33)- Player Option w/ OKC (Mid-Level Exception Consideration).
    Tyreke Evans (30)
    Thaddeus Young (31)
    J.J. Redick (35)
    Dewayne Dedmon (30)

    RFA(s):
    Karl-Anthony Towns (23)
    Malcolm Brogdon (26)
    Terry Rozier (25)
    Trey Lyles (23)

LeBron's departure created a void in the East that the 76ers & Celtics will fill. Tough, Physical Heat team but not competing for Championships. Creatively prepare for 2019 Free Agency, supplying OKC with the ammunition needed to be a competitor in the West. This is the Kevin Durant dream plan, but more realistically the Kyrie & Jimmy Butler result.

Pretty interesting way to clear Miami cap, so they can try to sign some key free agents in the upcoming seasons. But the thing is, I can see Pat pulling these moves, because he doesn't have a star player in place to attract these key free agents.

Also doing this requires Miami to hit rock bottom on purpose without hiding it to the fans. And Melo doesn't want to come off the bench, so him being traded to Miami might just cause problems if he isn't starting.

But all and all, good effort on your part.

Agree, but I don't think an all-star would consider landing himself on a team that doesn't have the roster talent and depth to support him... In other words, I think you first have to put a talented youth team together and then opt for a (young) allstar to add...

An alternative suggestion as to create cap space is proposed here: https://forums.prosportsdaily.com/sh...e-Heat-rebuilt
