MLB to initiate pace of play rules

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/...itiatives.html

    The notables:

Time between innings go from 2:25 to 2:05 (minutes) while postseason and tiebreakers are 2:55

Teams are limited to 6 non-pitching changes/mound visits and get an extra one during extra innings - players talking to the pitchers also count

Players can be excused from time limits under certain circumstances

    No pitch clock

Dugouts to be monitored for sign stealing

Repeat offenders will be disciplined by the commissioners office

    Am I missing anything?

At first glance, I like this.

Too much power in the umpires hands to actually legislate this, though.

AM disappointed they haven't implemented a rule to place a runner at 2B to start every half inning after the 14th inning during the regular season.

Iím not a fan. It speeds up games but it essentially just takes one lucky hit or a few wild pitches to end the game in a situation where a runner wouldnít be on in the first place

I'm disappointed that a real baseball fan would actually want that.

Why? That would be extremely stupid.

    This.

I desperately hope that never happens. While we're at it, why not just start the 5th with the bases loaded if nobody scores through the first 4 innings?

    Those rules seem fine.

I'm curious how well they will be implemented for the entire season. I'm sure they will be strict in April/May with the mound visit thing but i can see them becoming more laid back by the end.

    We'll see though i guess

No problem with any of these. As a Cubs fan, I get a bit tired of all the mound visits we do. They're seriously disruptive to the flow. I feel like much of it was to help Contreras but he should have enough experience under his belt now to render them unnecessary. I don't care how long a baseball game takes as long as the action is fluid. The games that take forever are usually the slugfests with 30 minute innings here and there. A good pitchers duel is going to be a little over 2 hours and a regular like, 6-5 game, will take close to 3. That's perfectly fine to me. Football games are 3 hours. I think basketball games are about the same due to all the clock stoppages and the slog of free throws toward the end. Hit that comfort zone between 2:30 and 3 hours and everyone should be happy.

I donít know why they canít use miked helmets for the pitcher and catcher. Would take some experimenting to get the tech and logistics right but itís clearly worked for the NFL.
