2018 NFL Free Agents to Avoid via PFF
    CARLOS HYDE
Kyle Shanahan’s system is built to make running backs look good. Running behind PFF’s sixth-ranked run-blocking, Hyde only managed a measly 3.9 yards per carry this past season. Sure, he’s flashed impressive games or stretches over the course of his career, but you better be a consistently dominant runner to make up for how bad Hyde is in the passing game. Last season he allowed more pressures (13) and dropped more balls (nine) than any other running back.
    DONTARI POE
A thin defensive tackle market sees Poe as likely the second-best option available after Sheldon Richardson. He’s a fine player, but far from a difference-maker. After taking a one-year, $8 million ‘prove-it’ deal with Atlanta last year, he did just that. What he proved by earning the 35th-highest grade among defensive interior players is that he’s worth around $8 million a year and not the eight-figure per year deal he’s likely to get.

    Lions rumors of the day:

Lions look to add running back
The Detroit Lions met with two free agent running backs this week: Jonathon Stewart and DeMarco Murray. The Lions finished dead last in rushing in 2017.

DT Haloti Ngata likely signing with Philadelphia
Adam Schefter: Former Lions’ DT Haloti Ngata intends to sign a one-year deal with Eagles.

Lions look to move tight end Eric Ebron
The Lions are fielding offers for their pass catching tight end Eric Ebron, signaling a possible shift to more run blocking tight ends under Matt Patricia.

Mike Garafolo reports that if Ebron gets moved, Eagles TE Trey Burton is a likely candidate to fill the spot.

Lions interested in ex-Patriot Malcolm Butler
Michael Giardi reports Matt Patricia is "quite interested" in the cornerback.

    Lions re-sign Tavon Austin
The Lions will retain safety Tavon Austin on a 2-year-deal worth $7 million. Wilson returns to Detroit after originally joining the Lions in 2016 as an unrestricted free agent following a four-year stint (2012-15) with the New England Patriots.

Lions re-sign DE Kerry Hyder, LS Don Muhlbach
Defensive end Kerry Hyder will return after suffering a season ending injury last year. Muhlbach returns for his 15th season in Detroit.

Initial numbers on Kennard/Lions deal— 3 years/$18.75—per source.

LB with pass rush skills from what I understand.

Former Bears’ LB Christian Jones plans to sign a two-year deal with the Lions, per source.

Bears reddit convo about him seems to be another "depth" guy. Good at run stopping, meh at coverage. Probably a backup to Davis at best (hopefully).

His draft profile says: Chiseled, height-weight-speed see-and-go reactor with intriguing athleticism, versatility and upside who shows in flashes, but leaves evaluators wanting more. Is likely to boost his stock during the pre-draft process, and could warrant consideration from 4-3 teams as a Sam or Will, or from 3-4 teams as a rush linebacker. Play will reach another level if/when his processor speed catches up to his physical talent.

I saw Jones was brought in to be our coverage backer he's good in coverage.

Kennard Probs gonna be strong side backer and DE in pass rush situations. Jones Davis the two three down backers until JRM is ready to pass Jones. We still need a DT and RB. But Kennard and Jones are better then Tahir and Worrilow. I trust in Bob Quinn for now.

At the very least I can appreciate them going for more athletic LB's. In the game today you need the back 7 to cover and we have not had that with Whitehead, and the terrible signing of Worrilow.

Tavon Wilson fills two needs for us, he is possibly our starting strong safety which then would push Diggs back to starting nickle corner.
After seeing Kyle Van Noy in NE I have faith in Matt Pats getting a lot out of Kennard and Jones

If we can trade Ebron for a 2nd or 3rd round pick and take his money and sign Tre Burton from the Eagles I think we call that a win. Burton is a pretty good and young all around tight end.

yeah...not a big splash, but spending money on big FA's is NOT the "Lions way"... anymore.

Kennard is alright. He had a real good 2016 (stats don't show it, but his impact was very good for giants). 2017 he regressed hard. He's okay, though. Jones idc for, he's not good, but he's a backup. At the very least, he's not slow as rocks like Worrilow. However, I will say, if Jones gets snaps like Worrilow, we'll hate him just as much as we hated Worrilow. Cannot have that dude seeing regular snaps.
