It's like the Ownership/GM actively try and get in the way of their own team.

I assume they are paying him the vet's minimum, so they lose nothing here. Even if he puts up 2016 because Smith isn't ready, it's a win for them. Smith beats him out in spring training, then they can move on for next to nothing.

They're paying him 550k. You cant lose on a deal with that money.

Might as well sign James Loney or Ryan Howard as backups once A-Gon goes on the DL.

    Future Hall of Shamers:
    (1) B.A.L.C.O. Barroids (2) Mark McJuicer (3) Jose Chem-seco (4) Rafael Palmeiroids (5) Ken Chem-initi (6) Jason Gi-andro (7) Ryan Fraud (8) Muscle Melk (9) Woman-Ram (10) Shammy Sosa (11) Roger Clear-mens (12) A-Roid (13) Ryan HGHoward

    Basically

Itís a nothing Burger move. If Gonzalez somehow does well, great for them, but odds are that Smith will be their starting first baseman at some point this year.
