    Giants to acquire Evan Longoria

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/...-longoria.html

As a Giants fan i hate this. Dude is on the decline.

    Arroyo apparently part of trade.

Still a solid player. Not remotely close to who he was but still solid 3ish fWAR guy.

He's relatively inexpensive too. '21 and '22 are the priciest at 18.5 and 19.5. I still think he'll be worth his contract.

10:47am: Young infielder Christian Arroyo will head to Tampa Bay in return, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (Twitter links). Outfielder Denard Span is going with him, helping to offset some of Longoria’s salary. Young pitchers Stephen Woods and Matt Krook are also joining the Rays, Murray (via Twitter) and Passan (via Twitter) add.

    - -

Krook is a former #1 pick (Miami) and Giants (#4) that struggled so far. Arroyo is a solid but unspectacular IF prospect. Woods is an okay pitching prospect, probably ranks +/- #20 in their system.

Arroyo is a high end prospect anyways. Don't like this trade for SF though.

Good for the Rays. Now trade away Colome and Archer and get yourself a quick rebuild.

glad STL didn't get him. Not sure he'll be worth whats left on his deal.

However, I am rooting for him to turn it around now that he's on a team with much more talent surrounding him.

I'm sad the Rays didn't get to keep him for his career

I feel like his contract is going to hurt the Giants more than it's going to help

I wanted the Cardinals to get a 3B upgrade, but I didn't feel he was enough of an upgrade over Gyroko to justify it, so I'm happy the Cardinals stayed away.

Longo's put up quite similar offensive production to Panik the last four seasons. And Panik doesn't have $86M over the next five years left on his deal.

    Longo- .264/.320/.431, .324 wOBA/106 wRC+, 14.4 WAR

    Panik- .282/.345/.408, .327 wOBA/107 wRC+, 9.6 WAR

One plays 2B and the other plays 3B though.

Exactly. I'm fine with Panik's production, but not Longo's with that contract and age.
