I can't comment without seeing the video as there are obviously clear instances where a parent can discipline a child. Also clear instances when it is abuse.

If it teaches anything it is to respond to adversity with violence. Using fear to teach has been proven to be harmful even if it results in a person's falling in line. Even for the people that say "it happened to me and look how I turned out"

That's fair. I saw the video. Her daughter was on her computer and chatting with someone and she came into the room and you can see her hands come across the computer screen a couple of times. Plus you can hear her voice (it's quite a distinctive voice).

Not just in violence responses either but also reclusive, isolating, emotionally cut off, toxic, cynical, distrustful, trouble relating to friends/family, inappropriate humor, poor boundaries, and so on. Every single person I have worked with, and in my family, said the same thing about turning out fine despite being hit as a child and yet their behavior suggests otherwise. It also makes for a nasty pairing with emotional abuse typically because said parent had the same thing happen to them and/or have poor coping skills when emotionally challenged.

It definitely is. It may not be the most constructive form of it, it may come with a host of negative consequences attached to it, but its definitely discipline.
