Russell is back with the Oilers. He's a defensive-first blueliner, but I have to wonder how he is going to play in years 3 and 4 of this deal with all of the punishment he's taken during his career.

EDMONTON The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Kris Russell to a four-year contract extension.

Russell, 30, appeared in 68 games with the Oilers last season, posting 13 points (one goal, two assists) and 23 penalty minutes. He led the NHL with 213 blocked shots and averaged 21:13 minutes of ice time per game, ranking third on the team.

The five-foot-10, 170-pound defenceman has 190 points (39 goals, 151 assists) and 210 penalty minutes in 641 career NHL games.
