St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka was fined $5,000 on Thursday for high-sticking Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp.
The incident occurred in the third period of the Blues' 5-2 win on Wednesday night. Sobotka picked up a four-minute double-minor for high-sticking as well as an off-setting roughing penalty with Lance Bouma.

Sobotka owns four assists in seven games with the Blues this season. He is in his first full season back in the NHL since 2013-14. The 30-year-old played one regular season game with the Blues last season after spending three years in the KHL.
He was fined the maximum allowable under the CBA.

The Los Angeles Kings signed veteran forward Brooks Laich to a one-year, $650,000 contract, the team announced on Thursday.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie says the Laich deal was in place before forward Jeff Carter went down with an injury Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadiens. Carter is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a laceration on his left leg suffered when he was hit into the board by Habs defenceman Jeff Petry.

Caps lose Andre Burakovsky for 6-8 weeks following surgery. Big loss for someone who was stepping into second line minutes and responsibility.

Other waiver clearings from yesterday- including Eric Fehr- and it seems that the injury scare for Alexander Ovechkin was just that, as he was back at practice again today.

Shane Doan joining Hockey Ops department to work under Colin Campbell, speculation that its a role similar to the one that Brendan Shanahan and Rob Blake had. Also, he's not 100% decided on playing for Team Canada but looks to be leaning against it

Andrew Cogliano signs a three year extension with the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks announced a three-year extension for Andrew Cogliano on Friday.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the deal carries an average annual value of $3.25 million.

The 30-year-old Toronto native was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Originally taken with the 25th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers out of the St. Mike's Majors of the OHL, Cogliano is in his eighth season with the Ducks.

In November, Cogliano appeared in his 800th consecutive game, becoming only the fourth player in NHL history to do so. The left winger has not missed a game since his NHL debut with the Oilers in October 2007. He is the NHL's current iron man, having appeared in 829 straight contests.

In 43 games this season, Cogliano has five goals and 13 assists.

Cogliano has amassed 149 goals and 202 assists over 11 NHL seasons with the Oilers and Ducks.

Internationally, Cogliano struck gold in consecutive years with Canada at the 2006 and 2007 World Juniors.

The Wings got a 2nd and 2 3rds from Smith+Jurco who have both since been waived. Not bad. Smith has no IQ.
