If the Penguins look for any cheap forwards I wonder if they look at Nail Yakupov. He's gotten worse every season since his rookie year but he's only going to be 24. The Pens did ok the last time they picked up a disappointing Edmonton cast off.

Nail Yakupov on minimal contract or even a camp tryout

I would love to get Nail especially on a nice prove it deal. I am wondering who we are going to get defensively and at Center. I read a few articles and comments that if Bonino signs we may go hard after Thornton still (some believe Marleau and Thornton will sign together somewhere and honestly I wouldn't mind bringing them both in for a one year lower cap hit deal for a shot at the cup. One analysis said he believes we may try to sign Stone or Franson to a deal and the pairings for D would be

    Dumoulin- Letang
    Schultz - Maatta
    Franson/stone - Cole

Which honestly if Letang pulls a miracle and stays healthy that would be a pretty solid D. The same analysis thought we are going to put Rowney in the fourth spot or try to sign Brian Boyle.

Elliotte Friedman mentioned the Penguins as a low key destination for Matt Duchene. He wonders if Olli Maatta plus some other pieces could get it done.

    Matt Duchene no way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not because he is not a good nhl player but many other reasons

    1. Sakic is rumored to want an arm and a leg plus two kidneys for him. Rumored he turned down from Isles Hamonic, polluck, 2017 first and that kid that wears 66 for them. (I cannot remember name) A top prospect none the less.

    2. he is not anything close to what we need. penalty killer-no, face off guy-no, shot blocker-no, checking center-no.

    3. he is coming off back to back horrible seasons.

    4. he only has 1 or 2 years left on contract he will wanna get paid after.

That all said he can score and skate well look great on sids wing. We don't need wingers though.

I think are best bet if we do loose Bonino and Cullen is to go after Jordan Weal, Brain Boyle, Mikael Backlund form the flames in a trade or Markus Granlund from the canucks in a trade.

Mikael Granlund from the wild and 1 of there 3 big d in a bigger move.

Victor Rask form the Carolina Hurricanes is also a very interesting offer at center. The canes also are loaded with awesome young d if we wanted to make a bigger deal.

I am in agreement as well. I would pass on Duchene. Landeskog I would be ok with from Colorado or Barrie. I do not want Duchene. Landeskog (killed penalties and has lower trade value). Barrie (we have issues at d). The Duchene rumors make no sense like t2 said islanders offered the house with no luck. Most rumors connect Maatta to duchene plus more from pens. Unless we are getting Barrie as well it would weaken out d even more. Duchene would need to have some salary retained, but most sites have us offering Sprong (who I honestly feel is going to incredible in a year or two and has a small cap hit). The packages I hear rumored don't make sense for pens

Agree on no to Duchene. I would rather fork up cash for Bonino and keep our other players.

I wouldn't mind us signing some younger guys who haven't caught on yet to a few year deal in hopes of replacing Bones, Cullen and others. All are 25 or younger and much like Bonino when he got here wasn't favored by his previous team, but can play well with some coaching.

Some I would take a shot on:
    Alexander Burmistrov (Center)
    Nikita Nesterov (defenseman)
    Nail Yakupov (RW)
    Mikhail Grigorenko (center)
    Jordan Weal (center)

Mike Buckley said the plan is to let Tristan Jarry develop another year. Means Penguins will shop for a proven backup goalie.

I'm told Pens have given up on retaining either Bonino or Daley. Will pursue other options. Bonino wants $16m/4 yrs. More at 3pm. @1059thex

    4/16 for Bonino isn't a bad deal.

Two that seem close — if not done — are Trevor Daley (Detroit).
