Yes there are risks signing a guy that will be 40+ at the end of the contract. The Phillies appear to be willing to accept these risks.
They do?! What was your first clue? Were you also a baseball GM in between your time as a mayor who couldn't stop writing ordinances and a spokesman for tribes in the area?

I would love to see anyone justify a punishment for making an off topic post in the off topic thread. That would be worth the price of admission.

Harper is a pretty good salesperson for the team. The Phillies needed speed at the top of the lineup and help in the middle infield. The Phillies have an owner that isn't afraid to spend some money. Trea Turner checks all of the boxes they needed to have checked. The fact that he can hit the ball out of the ballpark is a bonus.

    "Spend some money."

    He's going to be making $27MM when he's 35. And 36. And 37. And 38. And 39. And 40.

There was not a single SS in baseball last year that was both 35 years old and had enough ABs to qualify. They'll still be paying him $27MM a year three years past that. There's a difference between not being afraid to spend money and lighting it on fire.

I'd like to see them justify a punishment for it in any thread in here, given that the rules post hasn't been updated and the mods in here aren't acting as if they have.

Outside of the empty, pointless threats, anyway.

Were any weapons brandished during the negotiations? Is Dave Dombroski spending your money? Is it a good deal? That is yet to be determined.
Again, I am not surprised by this deal. The Phillies may have over-spent, but that is the price of playing the game today. Watch Judge get 10/$400+MM.

What the **** are you taking about?

It's a bad deal. Turner's ISO has declined for three straight seasons. When he's 35 - again, an age already above every single qualified SS this season - they'll still owe him like $160MM. Only you would think that may turn out to be a good thing.

Judge can at least DH late in his career. If your starting DH is a 38 year old Trea Turner, things have gone spectacularly wrong.

Again, the Phillies appear to be satisfied with the deal they signed. It is their money to spend as they wish.
Now you want to argue about other people spending their money? I guess I should expect that. As I said, you argue just to argue.

Is this some bizarre performance art?

Whether or not they're satisfied with it has zero bearing on if it's a good deal.

Whether or not it's "their money to spend as they wish" has zero bearing on if it's a good deal.

Why either of those things need to be said defies explanation.

Have your memory problems grown so bad that you don't remember people talking about whether or not a signing is good or bad for literally every big signing?

Why does all of this need to be explained to you?

Catman, there’s been some dumb mother ****ers to post in this forum over the years, but my god you are the dumbest person I’ve ever witnessed in person or online. This mostly relates to your healthcare thread but it’s on full display here too.

Everything you accuse others of doing is 100% what you do over and over. I honestly think you have Alzheimer’s kicking in and I honestly feel bad for you because it’s obvious that many posters here just **** with you for what I can gather as the only reason is to simply just to **** with you as you can’t resist eating it up.

Good luck with that and your moderation. I doubt it lasts much longer but best of luck.
