[Jack the Ripper]

We are a couple weeks out from George Kambosos Jr. (20-0, 10 KO) versus Devin Haney (27-0, 15 KO) for the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.

This will be Kambosos' first fight since he defeated Teofimo Lopez last November as a 15:1 underdog. If you enjoy boxing but aren't familiar with some of the stars of the sport outside of the household names like Canelo and Fury, I recommend tuning in for this one.

I can't imagine why an IT job would take you to areas with excessively high rates of violent crime.

The job doesn’t. Living near the city does. My company is located just slightly in NW DC and very close to NE. But I’ve gotten the opportunity to do many volunteer efforts all over the city as well as knowing and hanging out with people who live in Maryland and all over DC.

And my point was that the news takes a couple of incidents and blows them out of proportion. SE DC is almost always their target. But I’ve been there plenty of times and never felt in danger. The media has a job to do and it’s to sensationalize everything. That’s what they do and they do it well. If I wasn’t familiar with the area and knew people who lived there, I might fall for their games.

Conservative news programs do an excellent job of riling their viewers up with commentary about how dangerous, scary, and full of drugged out homeless people big cities like San Francisco are. Sure, there's absolutely some level of danger but it isn't the war zone people like BOP make it out to be.

I visit San Francisco regularly, keep to myself, and generally have a great time. The worst of it is walking back to one's car at the end of the trip and having anxiety about your windows being smashed in (which has never happened to me in my decades of regular visits).

Ehh I don't think local Bay Area news stations have a vested interest in making people fear the very area they live in. Yes, most all news stations report on negative, violent matters but it's not the same as what a station like FOX News does when it comes to big, liberal cities.

I’m not. I agree with you here. I think there probably is a reasonable alternative to a Wild West mentality when it comes to guns verses coming for everyone’s guns. A lot of people find the things like details of tracking and hunting or the sciences of marksmen ship interesting and fun. I don’t think they should be demonized at all. I also think that some federal regulations on guns could help reduce gun based crime.

Seems like it would be easy enough to come up with some sort of "point system" and base bail and sentencing on that.

Categorize levels of crime.
Apply that to number of offenses.
Put it on a chart, cross reference it and come iup with a number of points and that is thew bail and/or jail time.
Make bail a percentage of the perp's income (not sure how you could determine income for homeless and other poor that may have a job or file a tax return but something could be figured out).

Constantly committing a "minor" crime should not keep allowing you off the hook because it is a "minor" infraction. There should be some sort of meaningful penalty.

Jane Fonda was recently arrested four or five times for obstruction. She spent 1 night in jail. For people like her and other celebs, this is nothing more than a lark. Maybe if she had to do a week in jail based on each infraction or could be bailed out for 5% of last years income she (and others) would take thinks as seriously as they sholld.

That maybe the problem in LA, but this problem just didn't pop up over night. I have watch my area go down over that time since we have been back and that is due to increase poverty. Your DA, if he has the same problem as NYC, is trying to solve the problem of people waiting in jail for two to three years for their case to be heard because they are to poor to afford bail. If you are innocent or not, that is a unconstitutional since it state the right to a speedy court hearing. Low bail and no bail is their answer for that instead of shaping the court system to better reflect the Constitution.

Our whole justice system needs to be reformed, but no one is pushing that. So we get half-arse policy, but this one I am for. It is better than a innocent man losing his job, family and the justice they deserve siting in jail for two to three years before he is cleared. We do know the justice system works poorly for you if you are a peon. The way this economy is going we are going to have a lot more peons, poverty and people breaking the law or being accuse of it.

LA has 29,400 instances of violent crime in a city of 4,000,000 people. That is extremely low.
