Also, I understand that teams are going to overpay to get FA to put them over the top but the majority of baseball teams nowadays look for value, that's why the majority of FA don't sign until the new year

I asked Chong this in the other thread but I will ask you as well. Wheeler is the obvious FA pitching target for us, what is the max you would go on him both term and AAV
    Fair enough on Grandal

Wheeler has definitely found another gear and it's possible he gets even better. I'd only offer him a contract as part of a true plan to not only make the playoffs but get back to fielding a competitive team year in and year out.

4 years at $22MM AAV but only as part of a bigger plan to get this team winning again. [s]Signing[/s] trading for Chase Andersen should not have been in that plan.

You think Wheeler will sign a 4 year 88 million dollar deal?

22M AAV is where I'm at as well, I wouldnt doubt he gets 5/125. I don't get the hate on the Anderson signing? Like you said, it's only early and I expect there to be additions to the SP but adding a capable backend starter on the cheap for half of what you got for a reliever who's now out of baseball is a trade you should always make, especially when you have holes in the rotation like this team does

I can't imagine him signing a 3 year deal. Even 4 is hard to fathom. I think Wheeler will get 5 years and 100 mil at least.

    New rule next season:

A pitcher must either face at least three batters or pitch to the end of the half-inning.

Not many pure lefty specialists left but with this rule it all but kills the LOOGY. Multi inning relievers become even more valuable.

I do as well, it will definitely make managers change their strategies.

It's funny to me that it coincides with the roster increase.

I think just coincidence though - the two seem to be unrelated. A pitcher can still come in pitch to 1 batter and end the inning - the second part of the rule gives managers some flexibility

I'm just thinking that the 26th man is meant to be an extra pitcher, while the 3 batter rule should in theory make managers use less pitchers.

I'm not a fan of putting restrictions on how a manager can use his team but I also hated having the game stop to see a pitcher face one batter then having the game stop again. I'm indifferent to the rule change I guess.

If there's one team I would not trade with it's the Rays. They are up to their old tricks again with the Pham for Renfroe+ deal. On the surface it looks like a win for the Padres but the Rays always seem to get something good out of every trade.

Am I the only one who thinks the Padres have made a bunch of horrible moves this offseason? Imo they are taking a step backwards.
