Grew up watching Jeter and even I'm not really sure how you could make the argument for him. Jeter was never considered the best in the game. He sporadically would play like a top 5-10 player and lived safely in teh all-star level but Kobe was a top 5 player in the game for a decade.

Not really a fair question here in the NBA forum. I don't follow Jeter as closely, but I don't remember the negative press as much about him as about Kobe.

Does anyone ever have an argument about Jeter being a top 10 mlb player?

I think that ends this debate.

Considering there have been about 5 times as many MLB players as NBA players that comparison is a bit false. Theoretically Kobe could be the best of 4000 players and Jeter could be the 50th best of 20000 players ... is that a reasonable metric to make a final decision?

Jeter is extremely overrated... Its Kobe and its not close in my opinion. I think a better question would have been Kobe vs Mo considering MO might be the greatest closer of all time where Jeter probably isnt even a top 5 shortstop of all time let alone top 10 player.

The question is "who had a better career" not "who was the better player for their respective sport". If the question is about talent level then it's Kobe and it's not close, but I think Jeter had a better career.

He was the golden boy of baseball for over a decade, never had any sort of negative press around him, won five championships, lost in the World Series two more times, and never once played on a team with a losing record.

Kobe was an outstanding individual talent with an up and down career. Jeter was a good player with a phenomenal career.

Jeter. He had better intangibles, respected teammates and the game more, didn't committee adultery or wasn't a homophobe.

Jeter is easily in the top 10. and he played the game clean no steroids like most players do these days. as for who had a better career its a tough decision. they both had very impressive careers but i gotta go with Jeter. Jeter carried those teams in the 90's to all those titles. kobe had Shaq to help him along the way

Lmao, stfu. This is about the better career -- not the best humanitarian. Get a grip, dude. Didn't Wade get someone pregnant when there was a brief hiatus between him and Union? Nice...
