If Monta leaves, then I say we go after Reggie Jackson and Danny Green to fill in the 1 and 2 in our starting lineup, while resigning Chandler and Aminu. If Monta stays, then I say we DEFINITELY get go after Pat Beverley, resign Chandler, Aminu, and also have a bit more money to play around with quality names on the bench. I think we need a pretty quality scoring PF off the bench to split minutes with Dirk (Brandon Wright?) as well as another big on the bench (Kosta Koufos?) for rebounding and inside presence. This gives us a bench of Harris, Aminu, Wright, Koufos, and I'd want to fill out the rest of it with Barea, Charlie V, and a 3 point specialist.

I actually like either of those scenarios. Either scenario would require Tyson to take about $10 mil per year. Hopefully he's willing to pay that.

Here's another scenario that I heard Skin from Ben & Skin mentioning today. It won't be a very popular scenario but might be the best option long term for the Mavs.

Deandre Jordan wants to play for on the Texas teams. Houston already has a center and San Antonio will be going after Ladridge. Mavs should focus on maxing out Jordan and resigning Aminu. Word also has it that Monta is leaning towards opting in so that he can become a free agent when the cap goes up to $90 mil next off season. That obviously won't make the Mavs legit contenders this year (hell might not even make the playoffs) however they will once again have a ton of cap space going in to next off season while also having a young core of Jordan, Aminu, and Parsons under contract (Dirk coming off the bench). They would then be able to use that cap space to chase a "big fish" and a quality PG. That young core would be much more attractive to a "big fish" than the old core the Mavs have now.

Obviously it wouldn't be popular because it would mean another waisted year for Dirk and it would require the Mavs to let Tyson walk (again). A young Jordan though is a better long term investment than an old Tyson. We all also have to realize that Dirk is past his prime. I would love the Mavs to compete for a title this coming year but that's not very likely. At least not with the old team they have now.

If we could get Jordan, Aminu & Wright for the long haul I really like that idea.

Though tbh we can't let Tyson walk out again unless Jordan makes up him mind early

I have no idea honestly. Every year there are guys available though. I believe that's the year Ty Lawson's contract is up but I'm not 100% sure. At that point though I would prefer they sign a young PG in the Reggie Jackson mold.

It's very hard to tell what the big names are up to. Realistically, I'd say that they (f.e. D. Jordan and Aldridge) throw in Dallas as a possible future team in order to increase the money for the contracts they will have with other teams.
So I'd rather go for Thompson, Monroe, Kanter, Danny and/or Draymond Green. Tyson is still a great player, but it will be hard to offer him more than 10 m p.a.

There have been rumblings about Mavs trying to trade for Ty Lawson, but I'm told he's not frontburner target due to off-court issues.

Monta for Ty Lawson works for me. Pending Monta opts in of course. If they were able to trade for Ty and also make the deal for DeAndre Jordan they would have a solid team this year and a great foundation going into next year's free agency.

We need a point guard that can hit the open 3, guard & pass first ala everything Kidd did.

    i think "no"

kidd was a beast and more important unique!

and the skill-set we all want is unqiue

    def monster + hitting 3 + penetration + passing first + ..+..+

but if i have missed someone who would be that kind of guy we all want tell me !

    about the rumors

    jordan:
it seems that something is going on , but you all know we are not that good in attracting FA's we are kings of trading (ok rondo doesn't worked)

    lawson:
if we are able to trade ellis for lawson go for it ! i love ellis but as some of you just tell us allready , its easier to find guys for the SG beside lawson.

a PG who is able to play next to ellis is nearly impossible !?!?!?!?

Dirk says he hasn't talked to Monta Ellis lately, but "I'm guessing he's going to opt out. Why would he not?"

Monta Ellis hasn't informed Mavs of his decision yet. Midnight deadline.

Source: Monta Ellis has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract. The Mavs do not plan to try to re-sign him.
