    Blackhawks News, Notes, and Updates

Jason Williams will play in Wednesday's game against the Wild.

Williams has been sidelined for 35 games due to a groin injury and sports hernia surgery. Coach Denis Savard hopes Williams' return will help the team score more power-play goals. Chicago is ranked 26th in the league with a mere 40 power-play goals this season. Feb. 20 - 5:53 am et

Tuomo Ruutu could be a healthy scratch on Wednesday.

Coach Denis Savard needs to make room in the lineup for Jason Williams, who is returning from a groin injury and sports hernia surgery on Wednesday. Ruutu took two bad penalties in the third period of Tuesday's game. He has also gone 29 games without scoring a goal. Ruutu has six goals and 21 points in 57 games this season.

Blackhawks 1st shutout of the season came against Minnesota. Bolland with 2 goals and Kane had 1.

Nikolai Khabibulin saved all 38 Minnesota shots in a 3-0 victory Wednesday.

Khabibulin had missed Chicago's last three games with a sprained right knee. This shutout was his first of the season and it continued the hot streak he was on prior to the injury. He has a 1.35 GAA and .958 save percentage in five starts this month. Feb. 20 - 11:08 pm et

If the outdoor game is held in Chicago next year(which they haven't even said that they are going to do it every year) Wrigley Field will pose many problems. They just had there field redone and they might not want it decimated like that. The other part is that when the NHL does this, they want to sell as many tickets as possible. Soldier Field(the original idea to do it) holds 20k more than Wrigley.

The only way I see it happening at Wrigley is if Bettman thinks about the Aura and Mystique around Wrigley and is drawn to it.

I think Wrigley would accually be a good choice. It would really effect either fields since the ice they layer the area so much. Either place would be a fine choice. The only thing that matters to me is who it's against I would love to play Detroit in the game if we get it.

Its very possible Detroit would be the team to play just because of the rivalry, which would bring in a ton of viewers. 2 Original Six teams playing at Wrigley would be awesome.

Martin Lapointe will be a healthy scratch for Saturday afternoon's tilt against Los Angeles.

It will be the second consecutive game that Lapointe will sit in the press box. Part of his problem has been the excellent play of virtual unknowns Adam Burish and Dave Bolland. If Jason Williams, who is still a little sore after returning from hernia surgery, can't play in back-to-back games this weekend, Lapointe could return to active duty Sunday against Anaheim.
Jason Williams, who is still a little sore after recovering from hernia surgery, may not be able to play in back-to-back games this weekend.

He will definitely suit up for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Kings but if he needs a break, he may skip Sunday's tilt against the Ducks.

Brent Sopel missed Saturday's game in Los Angeles as he suffered a broken wrist earlier in the week.

Apparently Sopel broke his wrist on Wednesday blocking a shot. He will be out of the Chicago lineup for about two weeks. It's been a bad year for Sopel's hands as he broke a finger earlier in the season causing him to miss seven games. Sopel is having a medicore year fantasy-wise as he has a goal and 18 points in 50 games, He is plus 11, which is good, but has only 26 penalty minutes, which makes him a fringe defenseman in deep leagues. I would not mind Redden, but don't really think we need him. The Hawks are fairly deep on the blueline. Not to mention Zyuzin is back so that basically fills to spot.

Also I have read a rumor from the uncreditable Eklund that the Hawks may be nearing a deal sending Khabby and Ruutu to Ottawa for Emery, a pick, and a prospect.
