Detroit can sign Smith outright correct? No need for a sign and trade. Plus I doubt they would trade Drummond (who I would trade Horford for right now and start a rebuild).

I would even say Jeff is further a long at this point. I think $40 million over 5 is a good deal for both parties, but I could see Jeff wanting a more. Jrue Holiday's extension was $41 mil over 4.
But the point is he quoted me in rebuttal, when style of play was exactly my point from the start. Even said so in my second post on the matter (Post 243). So again if he is not debating that or that is not his point, what is the issue with my first post on the matter.

Yep, but the Hawks can still offer more money. SO if the true max is what Smith wants ( and I'm not saying he does, as I said from the start many miss quoted him on that), then they would still need a S&T to get that extra year done.

But I don't think Det would trade Drummond for SMith. If they would then we have a deal.

I would take a 2014 1st rounder from them as well.

Howard plans to meet with Dallas, Houston and Atlanta before meeting with the Lakers once teams are allowed to contact free agents beginning July 1, a source said. It appears that the teams will visit Howard in Los Angeles. ESPN.com

    Well.....

Smith, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, is open-minded about returning to Atlanta, one league source said. Smith and new Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer have had some conversations since Budenholzer was recently hired. Smith, 27, respects Budenholzer's background as Gregg Popovich's longtime assistant with the San Antonio Spurs. Smith's representation is still working on trimming down a long list of interested Yahoo! Sports

Some things I am reading on Twitter sounds like they might be working out a sign and trade. Hope so, would prob be a draft pick and that is fine (anything is better than nothing). Also reports are that Hawks are looking more at sign and trade options than re-signing Smith.

Larry Drew also wants Teague. It's madness.

Schroeder, Horford and Asik I can live with.

Although I posted it above..... We have heard so many lies about SMith and the Hawks in the past, I would not be surprised if he was a Hawk next year. I wouldn't be surpised if he wasn't ( in all fairness) either.

You would trade Horford for Drummond?

Am I the only one who appreciates how good Al is?

I'm not sure who will be a Hawk next year, Drafting 2 centers is interesting (and great that we finally did draft that position solidly). Horford could finally be moved over at PF, neither rookie center possibly wouldn't be on the roster next season, or we get rid of both Horford and Smith and do a total tank/rebuild. Time will tell.

Hawks.com has sure been pushing Horford as the face now (though to be fair only Horford/Jenkins/Lou is under contract).

If we go with a youth movement and rebuild, yes. Horford is in his prime and Drummond is the best possible outcome IMO. It won't happen, but wouldn't you want a young Center prospect that has shown promise if you were rebuilding?
